We have been to Zihua several times, but never in October. We are wanting to bring friends who have not been here before. I am thinking it is not the busy season. What can we expect? Are most places open? This is pretty general, but any comments are appreciated.

It's a little bit warmer than winter, but the weather is sublime! The last few of the tourist restaurants open, open with a day or two of testing menus. There aren't a lot of tourists, it's one of our favorite times, but again, they are all our favorites.
It's a great time to introduce newbies to Zihua, especially if you are prepared for warm weather.

We use to come down the last 2 weeks of October. It use to be the end of the rainy season and everything was lush and green. We really enjoyed the Day of the Dead at Pacifica and how they decorated for it. We decided it was getting to expensive to come in Oct and Jan. Now we come down 3 to 4 weeks starting usually the middle of January. We would rather get away from the bad weather in January. In the winter time Kathie needs the sun- years ago she had to have the special lamp on her desk.
I've been down a few times in October, in order to get the place ready for renters. Fewer crowds and a fair amount of rain, which comes down in buckets, rather than the light rains farther north. On the plus side: the rain isn't cold. We prefer to come down later, in order to escape the snow for a while. The hillsides are much greener in October.

The first time we came down to stay at Pacifica, it was 2 weeks in Sept/Oct 1999. It rained so hard it was hard to get out of our building for 6 days. On Wed. Kathie ask could we fly home early and I told her we had just a few days left and she would want to be back. The day she went to her office in our Coach House, I go up and she had tears in her eyes- there was so much work to catch up as Avon Manager. She said she wished we were back in Mexico sitting on our balcony sipping wine - rain or no rain. So now, when it rains heavy a couple of days we wait till it slacks up and we go fine some place to celebrate. The last time we went to have pizza and planned to take part of it back but it was so good we sat there and ate it all and walked in the drizzle back to Villa Mercedes not caring that we were getting soaked. When not at Pacifica, we take a 5 liter box of wine and just enjoy the rain sipping our wine and enjoying visiting with the guest at the hotel and making new friends.

I agree with Keith. Before I moved here full time I always visited during the last 2 weeks of October. The hotels are more reasonable and no crowds, everything is green and the fishing is normally very good (the sailfishing picks up, there are roosters around and the dodos are still here). I will say that if you visit during the beginning of the month you are rolling the dice a bit more concerning the weather. If possible shoot for the end of the month.

Went towards the end of October last year at the Azul Grand and it was maybe 20% so not everything was open but was not needed. The Azul Ixtapa had a lot more business with Mexican tourists. Most of the restaurants on La Ropa road for dinner were open with no problems getting in. Fishing was a little slow but that's just luck of the currents. Enjoyed it so much more than Easter week or Thanksgiving week, October is our time here from now on.

We were there in early November last year and it rained a lot even though the rainy season was supposed to be over. It was also very humid compared to January. We still had fun though. Very few tourists, no need for reservations for dinner (but some of our favourite spots El Manglar, Gianni's etc.) had just opened that week so may not be open when you are there. You could pretty much show up at the beach anytime before noon and still get the best spot. After noon you might get the second best spot
We found the accommodation prices were a lot less but the flights weren't much cheaper. Hope that helps.

Thank you everyone for the comments. Each very positive in pointing out what could be expected. Guess we couldn't go wrong, which is what I was hoping.

With the weather now, other than the temperature, the weather can't be predicted. Like everyone says, Sept/Oct everything is green and lush. We were really surprised how different it is in Jan/Feb. We will not come down over New Years again. For Kathie's 65th, she wanted to celebrate New Years and her birthday Jan 5th at Pacifica. When we were there in October we were invited to the tasting of the New Years Menu. We were the only non employees at the tasting. The chef would explain the different dishes to the owner's son-in-law and he would explain in English to Kathie and I. The week after New Years, they were running out of food for all the restaurants were crowed. The best part of New Years was having on of the best seats at El Faro's and watching the fireworks going off in front of you along the bay-first time we had seen parachute flares.
