Oh Me Oh My, Love My Zih Pie!
Our earthquake alert app's alarm went off at 8:00 this morning over and over as a s.1 temblorcito hit in Tecpan. While we didn't feel anything we still had our important papers ready and the door unlocked in case we had to make the mad dash outside. So far so good. Nothing like the earth moving to keep us humble and on our toes.
If you were on Calle Adelita in La Madera yesterday afternoon and saw or heard a bunch of women rock'n'rolling to Mexican 60's music and carrying on in the salon de fiestas near Rufo's, that was my wife and a bunch of her friends celebrating the birthday of one of her friends. I hope they weren't too noisy for any of you. I find it quite wonderful that all these old schoolmates and lifelong friends are still able to get together and have so much fun with regularity. They've seen a lot of changes here i Zihuatanejo during their lifetime yet they still carry on with their own traditions as they celebrate each others' birthdays and other events without fail. This is what a community is supposed to be about: friends and family all celebrating each other's lives with love and passion.
A friend of ours from the Región de la Montaña gave us a special gift of some mezcal from Tixtla in a beautiful hand-painted bottle with two bamboo caballitos for drinking it. We'll be cracking this bottle open soon for one special occasion or another. Hey, when you're The Luckiest Gringo in Mexico there is no shortage of special occasions.

An egret, a fisherman in his panga, and Cerro El Almacén. The perfect ingredients for a Zihuatanejo picture postcard.
