Does anyone know what the traffic fines are for different offences. A friend told me that a fine of 8,000 pesos for running an amber light. I know the fines have gone up over time, but 8,000 seems very high

Reading the sample questions & answers to get a driver's license in Jalisco the correct answer to the question of what to do at an amber light is "speed up to avoid being hit from behind".

They take a TEST? Not here. Just pay, get your picture taken, sign a paper and off you go. They never ask if you actually know how to drive. In Guerrero bumper cars count as driving experience.

Friends had to take the test in Jalisco to get their licenses. They were given the choice of the easy way or the hard way, about 200 peso difference in price. He failed the test the hard way. She paid extra for the easy, the examiner placed the cursor over the correct answer and she had to click enter. She passed first try!!!

Even the two test system would be a huge improvement over Guerrero's "bumper car " system. Most locals have never been shown what directional signals are for preferring to use the hazard signals (if even that) when they might turn quick or otherwise make a change.

When I applied for my Guerrero license, there was no knowledge or driving test, but I did have to get a medical. Several folks have told me that, after getting pulled over for a real or invented transgression, they were given the choice of going to court and paying the full amount, or paying a 200 Peso bribe.

It was 500 pesos here in Ixtapa when we got pulled over for not wearing seat belts. Here's what we found ironic. As were waiting to pull back into traffic, A Fonatur truck with a half dozen workers in the back went by. Any seat belts? Did they get pulled over? Nooooooo!

500 pesos as well for me making an illegal u-turn. The cop was nice enough to let me pay him on the spot so that I did not have to take time out of my vacation to go to the courthouse

Nope take the ticket and pay it at city hall. Unless you're drunk then pay the cop whatever he wants.

Our architect/contractor was driving to Morelia from Ixtapa with his family to visit his folks, when he got pulled over for allegedly speeding. The cop gave him the option of a bribe or a ticket. Luis refused to bribe him, so he got the ticket and had his license taken away. Had to go to court to pay and get his license back.

It all depends. If doing the right thing means saving time and money, I suppose he did. If, on the other hand, doing the right thing means refusing to bribe the cop, I'll go with the latter. How about you?

Should I start a bumper boat business?
With squirt guns on the bow?
