As of today, since April 18, 2020 Zihuatanejo has registered a cumulative total of 2,136 confirmed cases of Covid-19 (3 more than yesterday), 173 that have resulted in fatalities, 28 that are currently active, and approximately 1,798 that have recovered. La Unión currently registers 2 active cases and Petatlán registers 3. Hopefully Guerrero can remain in Semáforo Amarillo through Semana Santa so that tourists can enjoy themselves a bit. I don't think we'll make it to Semáforo Verde unless the state fudges the stats. Hoping there won't be a spike afterwards like we saw after the Christmas holidays.

Don't forget to catch the first day of racing for the 36th America's Cup from Auckland.

All the wooden boxes used by the fishermen to keep their supplies in are supposed to be replaced by the concrete (!) boxes being built by the city. I don't see that working out so well. I predict they will quickly become quite smelly and unhealthy, and the increased weight on the sand from the new tons of concrete will increase the erosion on this part of the beach.

how many Masks do you see in this picture, not counting the one on the ignored sign?

I search of Waldo. 6 out of 38. 15% Lower than I normally see in town or walking the beach. But you have made a good observation that should be shared with the Local Beach Patrol.

That is 15% are wearing masks. This is lower than I normally see which is over 50%.

Because we changed from red to yellow, people think we must have beaten the virus. I expect the numbers will start climbing again and we will be back into red before long Because they are starting to get the vaccine, does not mean we stopped it

We won’t be buying fish when we are there a month from now. Amd although we have been vaccinated, we still plan to mask up and social distance. We would avoid groups of unmasked people, which would effect businesses we might otherwise patronize.

What will you be buying?

In addition to dinners in restaurants, we tend to buy gifts for friends, mostly the hand painted stuff, clothes, placemats, the occasional rug and jewelry. We will actually try to over-buy this time to do what we can to help. But as I said in the OP, even though we are vaccinated and will be masked, we will stay away from any place where there are unmasked folks, be they tourists, locals or other gringos.

The last few days I have walked from Madera to the area of Bodega.
I have been surprised at the percentage of people I see wearing masks.
Most of the shopkeepers, as well as pedestrians are wearing masks.
It's almost like they FINALLY got the message that they were supposed to and it's actually a good thing to do.
Of course there are some that aren't wearing masks.
I don't know their reasoning, their thought process, their motivations.
But as always it comes down to individual responsibility...and modeling behavior

'Bout spit out my delicious coffee laughing at your comment remembering your sojourn on the pier one morning when it was closed to the public. So are you saying that now at your late age you've finally learned NOT to walk in areas marked off with yellow tape that says PRECAUCIÓN NO PASAR?

Couldn't resist. :stirpot:

Mask wearing is nearly universal here in the Puget Sound area. We walk our dog a couple of times day at a 350 acre park. While we and others tend not to wear masks in the park, nearly everybody detours around each other automatically, maintaining social distance. In the rare occasion when there is not an alternate trail, masks are automatically whipped out. The level of science denial/ignorance, primarily in red states, is appalling. As you can see from the attached New York Times article, it is working for us. Remember this started in the United States in a nursing home about 50 miles north of me.
