As of today, since April 18, 2020 Zihuatanejo has registered a cumulative total of 2,428 confirmed cases of Covid-19 (1 more than yesterday), 194 that have resulted in fatalities, 6 that are currently active, and approximately 2,078 that have recovered. Petatlán currently registers 2 active cases while La Unión registers 0.

Mexico's national elections are a marvel to behold. Even though our voting is all done on one day, it's done on a Sunday when most people don't work. There are rarely long waits or long lines because in most places there are plenty of casillas and the process is extremely simple, leaving an easily verifiable paper trail. It makes what happens in the USA appear rather unnecessarily cumbersome and complicated, if not counterproductive. But then here we want everyone to be able to vote and to do so easily. There are no gerrymandered districts, no voter suppression laws, nothing complicated at all for the voters. While my wife encountered a line at 8:00 AM, I was watching Mexico's Checo Perez win the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Azerbaijan, so I didn't go until sometime between 10 and 11 after I'd had my Sunday bolillo con relleno for breakfast. There was no line. No fuss. I knew almost everyone at the polling station, several have been my friends for most of my life, many of us even worked together when I was in charge of state and local elections at the same polling station several years ago. This is how a community is supposed to work together. While it usually takes several days to certify and count all the results, you can check the preliminary results here: --> https://prep2021-gro-opl.mx/prepr/

It was an extremely hot day. Rain danced around on the horizon, but it's barely sprinkled here, just enough to make it more humid. Thank goodness for cold beer.

A typical morning on Zihuatanejo's downtown beach at our fishermen's market (except for the recently unnecessarily cut palm tree).

Robb I agree in part with your comments about Mexico's election process as trying to be inclusive rather than exclusive.

I do you are in error to lump all the US jurisdictions(more than 50 counting states, DC and territories) as trying to suppress voter turnout.

I do note you seem to be quiet about the horrendous violence nationally that has accompanied this election process in Mexico no doubt aided by the expiration of the assault weapons ban in the US.

Assault weapons in the US are available to SWAT team and military only.

What is your definition of Assault weapon?
Regardless your statement is very incorrect.

as·sault ri·fle
Learn to pronounce
noun
noun: assault rifle; plural noun: assault rifles
a rapid-fire, magazine-fed automatic rifle designed for infantry use.

The key word here is automatic

I already gave one reader "time out" today for this nonsense. Not going to argue about specs. Not all assault weapons commonly referred to are automatic and the broader definition used in the now-expired Assault Weapons Ban is the one discussed by sane civilians.

It really speaks to a widespread mental illness in the USA that I post a lovely photo, wonderful music and mention our historical election process, yet the only response from U.S. citizens is divisive political crap: "illegal aliens", "voter fraud", and now "assault weapons". But thanks for reminding me why I am thankful each and every day to be right where I am, where every day is the best day of my life, far from whatever madness afflicts way too many of you. Wishing you all a speedy and full recovery.

I completely agree that mental illness is the issue. Too little, or no, concern is directed at the root of the problem.

So who would you rather encounter, a mentally ill person with a Swiss Army knife or an AR-15?

Perchance you missed the recent Federal court ruling: Assault Weapons Ban Overturned, Judge Likens AR-15 to Swiss Army Knife

Guns don't kill people. It's the bullets, stupid.
