Tourists everywhere and hardly any are bothering to wear facemasks while in proximity to strangers. A recipe for a growing rate of infections. Zihuatanejo currently is registering 108 active cases of Covid-19, but the local and state governments appear to be ignoring their obligations to public health. Hmmmm...

This Sunday was just another picture postcard perfect day. A bit on the warm side, but nothing a cool refreshment or a swim couldn't remedy. I couldn't help but notice while watching the F1 Grand Prix from Silverstone this morning that the temperature there during the race was exactly the same as it was here.

Right after a light rain at the Cancha Municipal. Can't call it the main plaza anymore because there's no plaza left. Just a coconut grove and a basketball court. Oh, there is what appears to be a stage-like area on the east side of the grove such as for outdoor performances, but there's nowhere for an audience to sit because of the palm trees. Oops.

Rob, I could be wrong here, but I'm starting to suspect you don't like the changes to the waterfront.

Up here in the frozen north, (we wish: we hit 44C here in British Columbia's Okanagan valley in late June....with 18% humidity!.... and daily highs have been 33-35C every day since) very few are wearing masks in the stores. Throughout the pandemic, mask-wearing on the streets has been virtually non-existent. I guess I missed the proclamation that COVID was over here: I'm still wearing my mask in stores......but I'm starting to get stares.

I'm in Kelowna as well. I never thought I'd see the day that it would be too hot to go to the beach

"just a coconut grove and a basketball court", NOTICE NO BASKETS?, so
no games or no people. Pandemic Control?

And instead of having water drain from the center outwards, it's exactly the opposite, so there is a noticeable v-shape to the court which will surely cause more than a few scraped knees (or worse) as people running inevitably stumble from the change in inclination. And as you can see, it doesn't drain exactly as it should, either.

I believe they are saving the final touches on the basketball court for the Big Photo Op with the Gober Precioso and the Presidente Municipal and other VIP. After that the entire project is likely not to see maintenance just like every previous remodeling project so they can justify repeating the process in a few years. This is about the 6th or so remodeling process I've witnessed. The plants are already dying from lack of water (as I predicted) just like all the plants did on the La Madera section of the same project.

The old basketball court is beneath this new layer of cement, adding additional weight that is already causing the beach in front to erode, also just as I predicted would happen.

Since the new lay-out doesn't look like it can function very well as a gathering point for large crowds, where will large gatherings meet? Zihua doesn't have a traditional "zocalo".....the old La Cancha that we all came to love fulfilled that function.

Now that's an interesting question.
