The Cinema Flamingo decided to close today because so few people are going out. Ixtapa's all-included tourists don't hardly leave their hotels, and most everyone here is hunkered down riding out the Semáforo Rojo.
Active Covid-19 cases reported continue to fall as testing also falls. Only 192 reported today in Zihuatanejo.
I've been assured that the Pfizer vaccines for the 40-49añeros will be here within a couple of weeks. If you are in the 30-39añero group awaiting your second Pfizer dosis you can drive to the Instituto Tecnológico de Lázaro Cárdenas where they are vaccinating this week from the 24th to the 27th from 8 until 2. Otherwise wait until it's available locally after the 40-49añero group gets theirs.
Another picture postcard perfect day in paradise, except for this damned pandemia.

Good-bye to the remnants of Hurricane Grace! Oops, more of the brand new construction failed. No problem. More profits for the construction company.

Doesn't look like a safe place to sit. Yikes!
Big hugs for your broken heart.

I don’t see how you can blame all inclusive resorts for closing a movie theater? We don’t stay at an all inclusive when we travel yearly to Ixtapa but going to a movie would be on the very bottom of my bucket list (wouldn’t even be a thought for my bucket) of things to do while enjoying the beauty of the area. If the area received daily afternoon rains like the gulf coast maybe I would consider a movie however times and technology are changing and movie theaters are struggling everywhere. It’s much easier and more comfortable to stream a new release in the comforts of your home. We eat Breakfast and Dinner out everyday on our vacation that money spent helps the local economy much more than cutting 1 of them meals out to go to a movie. I believe that the concern about safety of the area or traveling anywhere in Mexico is what is driving people to all-inclusive (not us). Most of our friends (40 age group) would never consider staying anywhere in Mexico without all inclusive option because of that fear or fact. If we could get the area downgraded from a do not travel that may also help then the airlines might add a few more flights.
Sorry for getting off topic a bit on my reply about the movie theater but thought as a daily reader and a seldom poster it would be ok to offer a response from a different perspective and person.

I appreciate your comments, but they seem a bit unnecessarily defensive.
Besides locals, Mexican families on vacation used to frequent Ixtapa's shopping centers and its movie theater quite a lot before the pandemia and before all-inclusive became the only option for the majority of Ixtapa's hotels. The current situation has for years attracted such cheap tourists that Ixtapa's shopping centers started closing their shops. Hardly anyone here (except politicians) has any money to spend and unfortunately that includes the tourists staying in most of Ixtapa's hotels.
This has been a problem of much discussion in our community in recent years, though I was the only person discussing it for years until relatively recently.
I try to keep up with comments by locals and visitors on the local movie theaters' pages on Facebook, and previously there would be quite a lot of discussion and excitement about going to the movies, including by visitors, but the pandemia has really hurt a lot of local businesses, and too many of our visitors have less purchasing power than ever. We have been at an unsustainable level now for too many years.
Though some folks in the local tourist industry are finally discussing the problems I've been pointing out for many years, it seems to be too little too late, and too many of them simply look out for themselves at the expense of the community. That's the problem with having corporate-owned hotels dominating a major sector of our local economy. And the local government as well as Fonatur collect their same paychecks whether Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa prospers or not, so they tend to only simulate their jobs as much as possible. All the tutti-frutti colors painted everywhere don't change a thing.

We seem to see a movie listed that we just have to see about weekly, and go, get the great popcorn, or when we went to Ixtapa, the french fries!!!
Great theaters, great snack foods, fun becoming movie goers. The prices are great too!

When it’s only 2 of you vacationing and you look at package deals, it’s less expensive for us to stay at the Azul Grand than a condo in Ixtapa on the beach which includes nothing. That being said after 6 years in a row we are done, back to some peace and quite. Big sign of me getting old, I want to hang out with Dave now. I have a feeling that there are some nice discounts at AIs for National tourists. As for the movies they are a great deal in Mexico and we go probably every other trip now. Never went to the old theater in Zihua but understand how you will miss it. The theater that I went to in my neighborhood as a kid was converted into a porno house in the 70’s. Luckily after a few years it was shut down.
Very sorry about your grandson, it has to be so hard on Lupita.
