Who's What, Where on La Ropa.

I walked the entire beach today, to see how the current regulations have affected each spot along the beach.

1. Three locations seem to have been affected the most: Embarc, Restaurant Tritón, (prev. La Cantinita, prev. Elvira's) and Rossy's no longer have any lounge chairs or umbrellas on the beach. Embarc's are all behind their wood-stake fence line. Tritón has no chairs/umbrellas/tables on the beach: everything is now up the stairs. Rossy's has lost about two rows of umbrellas/lounge chairs/tables.

2. Paty's no longer has any lounge chairs or umbrellas out on the beach. Instead, she has about a dozen yellow Adirondack-type chairs that are just beyond the last row of tables/chairs/umbrellas. Her "territory" has been pushed back perhaps 5 meters or so further away from the high tide line, but folks are gently pushing the beach limits, moving their Adirondacks further and further out, then asking for umbrellas, etc.

3. Many spots seem unaffected. Sotavento Beach Club, the Catalina, Villa Mexicana, the Thompson, La Perla, Restaurant Arena, El Pirata, El Delfin and the small beachside hotels like Vepao all seem to be "business as usual."

Re the current prohibition on chairs/umbrellas/food on the beach: interesting to note the dozens of tourist buses in town today....but where were the people? They certainly weren't at La Ropa. Someone set up a tent beside Tritón. We waited for the beach police to pounce, but it was still there when we left. Large groups.....8, 10, 12 people.... of national tourists walk onto the beach, stand there looking bewildered.....where do we go? They ask a few questions to the waiters at a restaurant, and are directed "down the beach". To where? Many clearly have no intention of sitting at the relatively-expensive beach restaurants. Where do they go? Seems the blue beach is for the blue-bloods; the riff-raff (i.e. regular folks) don't appear to be welcome.

Most of the nationals enter LaRopa at the south end where the busses can unload their passengers. In regard to Chairs and umbrellas, It is a crying shame that the regulations are stopping people from enjoying beach time and having some shade to enjoy during the heat of the day. But I also see the point that when the chairs and unbrellas were allowed, the amount of Garbage that was left on the beach was disturbing to all of those that stayed when the busses departed. Bad is not the word for it. Many of us would spend sunday evening and Monday morning filling bags with garbage. So as it goes, the few ruined it for the masses.

Gee, instead of harassing EVERYONE and ruining it for EVERYONE, logic would suggest placing trash cans at strategic and CONVENIENT locations and having the eco-guardianas (or whatever the hell they call themselves) FINE THE LITTERERS. Kind of like they do at most every other half-decent tourist destination in the world.

The entire length of the newly remodeled multi-million peso Paseo del Pescador doesn't have one single garbage container. Not one. From the pier to the end of La Madera. Each morning there is garbage strewn up and down the Paseo and the beach from the night before, and since they lock up the ONE PUBLIC RESTROOM that most people don't use anyway since they charge, every single tree and cement pillar on the beach has become a urinal (and worse) for the night's drunks. I expect better for the taxes we pay instead of watching local politicians assign their own businesses non-bid public contracts one after another for projects of dubious necessity like the Paseo del Pescador, the Mercado de La Ropa, and the FUGLY concrete letters that everyone poses in front of at the beach instead of the jaw-dropping beautiful beach itself.

Daily I read complaints from Mexican tourists about the ridiculous beach rules, and daily I read that they will not return but instead go to other places such as Barra de Potosí, Papanoa, Playa Linda, La Barrita, Troncones and Saladitas. And just like that Zihuatanejo loses the little income its "new" tourism is supposed to generate. People who were repeat visitors, including many who have been readers here, no longer return. The solution is simple. But getting our local politicians to admit their error after they've spent years bragging about "being awarded" the Blue Flag certification is another matter. They have too much political investment, and they could never admit I was right all along and they were wrong. ¡SE LOS DIJE!

Agree, Some tended to garbage cans would be nice. Tended to is the key word here.

:megusta:

Here in this internationally famous prestigioso destino turísto, using heavy duty liners & routine washing of the trash bins, of course along with daily disposal of the contents is the tending to that should be done. Y no solamente en las playas, sino, en toda la ciudad. An unkempt apestoso asqueroso bote de basura, may be even worse than no trash can at all :-o

I 100% agree Rob. At a minimum there needs to be "haul in haul out" mentality established on the beach. The tourist police or whomever I see walking the beach should be reminding people to contain their trash while they are enjoying it and to haul it out with them to the nearest trash receptacle when they leave or risk receiving a fine. The solution to the trash problem is not to make it inaccessible to those who cannot or are not willing to pay restaurants to use their chairs.

I have been to a lot of beaches all over the world and it is very rare that you don't see a garbage bin as soon as you see any kind of establishment, being a beach restaurant, someone renting seadoo's, etc. Most places want to keep it clean and it is common sense you need a place for people to throw their garbage. I have bought drinks in Zihua as I am heading to the beach or on the beach as I am walking from one end to the other and it is so annoying there is nowhere to discard it. I enjoyed the fact on the walking path off the Madera going to Centro they had bins in a few locations so easy to keep it clean and people use them.

Trash Can on La Ropa!

Completely forgot about Victor!!!!! He has had the boat tour/fishing/snorkeling concession on the sand between The Thompson and Villa Mexicana at the end of the Mercadito for many years. He is also a brand new father to son Rodrigo.

He ALWAYS has his medium size lidded trash can right there in front of his spot so people have a place to put their trash. It gets used a LOT!!!

Excerpt from ZRob's comments----->

" The entire length of the newly remodeled multi-million peso Paseo del Pescador doesn't have one single garbage container. Not one. From the pier to the end of La Madera. Each morning there is garbage strewn up and down the Paseo and the beach from the night before " ........

I would suggest that people call ( Phone: 755 555 0700 ) to the Dirección de Turísmo (or whatever it's called) en el H. Ayuntamiento, and comment about (e.g. absurdity of) this issue.
Also post your comments about the lack of trash bins on
https://www.facebook.com/Gob.Zihuatanejo/

Though really, as Z Rob mentioned in another post this issue is such a "no-brainer ", that none of this should even be necessary.
