Health authorities in Guerrero report 162 currently active cases of Covid-19 in Zihuatanejo, 1 in La Unión and 1 in Petatlán. I'm expecting we'll hear details soon about upcoming vaccinations for next week. That seems to be the consensus.

Atención rezagados: For those of you of 18 and over awaiting your second vaccination, register on the government's website in order to be able to receive your vaccination in the coming days.

One of the daily rituals at our home is of course the feeding of our adopted roofcats who live on the rooftop of the property next door. But after the cats eat along come several tlacuaches, one at a time, to clean up the leftovers as well as to enjoy the water and croquetas my wife leaves for them. We've watched several generations of them come and go. It's quite fascinating to live in such close proximity to them day after day and get to watch them grow up and unfortunately die from old age.

Be sure to take advantage of the many local restaurants that deliver as well as the ones that are open-air where the health risk from the damn virus is less of a problem.

Hola
Thanks for your posts. Always look forward to them. Could you please post a couple pictures of the tlacuaches? We had a few of them around our place, but I have never got a pic of them. They are sneaky but harmless little creatures.
Thanks

I've lived with lots of different mammals, insects, birds, reptiles and even crustaceans big and small (you should see the giant crabs that live miles inland in the Caribbean) around the different homes I've had, but tlacuaches are usually quite shy nocturnal critters that we rarely see, so it's quite remarkable that we're allowed to have a front row seat to their private life.

They seem to get along quite well with the cats. Never heard them hiss at each other. They'll even eat side by side. This is the view outside our kitchen window while standing at our sink.

Hola
Thanks for the pics. I know when they have been around, because the dogs food dish or water dish has been moved or turned over. Have rarely seen them though.

Thanks for that. Another great quote to add to my list.

We can either laugh or cry. What's your choice?

I find myself doing both, often at the same time.

Rob, do you know where the possums live when they're not scavenging?

We have one that sleeps the days away in an empty flower pot shoved in a corner of the yard.

Yes, they live under the tejas of the roof, though they visit the nearby trees from time to time. They really don't have to scavenge because we feed them.

They must live in the trees behind our house, too, because we see them lumbering along the rooftop of the house next-door just under our laminas. Drives the cat crazy. Last one we saw was HUGE - like the size of a medium sized dog!

I would have thought of a Coati maybe, but this article states that some species of tlacuache can weight up to 20 kg!!!
