No swimming

Lifeguards ordered everyone out of the water at Playa Quieta in Ixtapa about a half hour ago. They say on orders of the Fire Department, but they won’t say, or don’t know, why. Does anyone know if anything is going on anywhere else? No sign of a crocodile or any other apparent reason. If it’s tsunami related I would expect the same thing to be happening elsewhere.

Tsunami

We literally have just walked in from sitting on the beach at Playa la Ropa. Not an official person anywhere.

We did have a single wave that came WAY up the beach and under our chairs. Considering that we were a good 15 feet from the water line, we figure that was due to tsunami action.

Submarine volcano at Tonga. True story.

Knew that. Mentioned it in my original post. I just wasn’t sure if that was behind closing the beach today, since there was never any tsunami warning for Mexico.

Exactly.

It was an uninformed and late response by the LOCAL authorities. Trying to simulate their job, as usual. There was never any danger locally unless you wanted to swim in the mouth of one of the lagoons or rivers such as Barra de Potosí where there was some current rushing in and out of the lagoon, but Barra de Potosí is Petatlán, not Zihuatanejo. The beaches in Zihuatanejo's bay as well as Playa Blanca, Playa Larga and Playa El Palmar were calm. Only at Playa Linda near the mouth of Río Ixtapa was there any current, and any surfers there made the best of it.

And at the mouth of the lagoon here. No swimmers there, but because of the narrower opening, the current intensified - it sunk at least one boat, my husband's co-op (and many others) pulled their boats out or moved them to face into the mouth of the lagoon. Kinda trippy in the middle of the day with no other action happening and nice weather overhead!

Sorry. You're right. Yes, I mentioned Las Salinas lagoon in another post with the virus report.
