You have got to be kidding! They jumped to 125.00 to play that course that was over priced to begin with. I play each time when I’m down there and enjoy the outing even though the rental clubs are bad and the carts are dangerous. Still I have a nice time out. But 125.00 now to play a course in Mexico at best should be 75 bucks will loose my green fees. Sure hope others will boycott these outrageous prices.

Less customers, we must raise the price. Backward economics. Lower the price to $50-$75 and fill the course. Sell Beer, Lunch, Shirts, all kinds of things to make up the difference. Also, instead of playing once a month, most would play once per week or more. Soon they will have no green fees, course will have no money to take care of itself and then they will have even less green fees and terrible reviews. Shut the Gate.

You got it right. That’s what golf course management is all about. Yes it is Mexico, but that’s exactly how to bring the average golfer in. Beer cart girl, burrito lunch ticket along with decent rates and more people will play. Of the 15 years I’ve I played there, I’ve never seen the course backed up or even 20% full. It’s a great layout, but not a 125.00 course.
Sure hope rates come down to normal before we get there for our two weeks in November.

My gosh that's so damn ridiculous!!
When I use to vacation down there frequently from roughly 1992 thru about 2000 I brought my own clubs down because I absolutely loved that course and layout as well.
Now granted it was a steal back then to play, and of course prices will go up some over time. But as many of you mentioned $125 is WAY OUT OF LINE for that place.
The rates are so bad that I wouldn't even consider shooting twilight at that number.
From my perspective dumping money to rehab or build a clubhouse/sportsbar is an true waste of money.
If I vacation in Mexico I'm shooting my round of golf and having some beers out on the course and then getting out of there and doing something else.
What a shame.....that place will fail big time.

Oh well, although I have golfed there for over 20 years I will save the few bucks for bringing down my clubs and MAYBE play one round with rentals. They have lost me at those rates. No one in their right mind would build a club house there unless it has a large laundry!

The new owner has made it clear that his focus is on the AI hotels and Timeshares along the beach on Playa El Palmar. He is a successful real estate developer who recently completed a project on the hills overlooking Playa La Ropa. And yes, his future plans are to have a restaurant upstairs and remove the tennis courts in front of Palma Real and build condos. He's also planning on reconfiguring hole #15 (their signature hole with the green adjacent to the beach) and build more condos there. He claims in three years or so the course will be among the best in Mexico. It is a beautiful Robert Trent Jones design that was damaged pretty bad from Hurricane Rick last October. As a full time resident I would have to play an average of twice a week for a year to get the price down to a reasonable $50U.S. Not impossible, but my physical health and the iffy weather over the summer might not let that happen. And $60,000P is a lot to bet on a dry summer and a healthy back! There is another course in town, Marina Ixtapa G.C., with more reasonable rates, but the course is in terrible shape IMO. You can buy a fifty round package, golf and cart, for just under $1,000P; there are packages available for fewer rounds. Their cart situation is terrible as well right now, although they are supposed to get carts from Palma Real this fall when Palma Real gets "newer" carts with GPS this fall.

We all know how plans of new renovations and how long it takes to start building in Mexico.
They will loose most all business from vacationers. It will never be a 125.00 golf course in our lifetime. I can play Torrey Pines for residence prices and out non residents 180.00. Pretty sure that Campo de Golf Palma Real is not in the same league as Torrey Pines. I’ll spend my money on two Picante cruises now instead of golf.

That must be over in Michoacan, across the bay/inlet from Barra de Navidad. The latter is in Jalisco. Someone apparently built a casino over there....you could just make it out from Barra. Chisme at the time said the development on the Michoacan side was drug money/laundering. Did you try the casino?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!! Looking for the cheapest tourists we've ever seen to pay US$125 per round at Palma Real golf course is the epitome of stupidity. The foolish owner need only look at Ixtapa's decaying shopping centers where hardly any Time-Share or All-Included tourists venture, much less BUY anything. And the same OVERDEVELOPMENT and the arrival of Time-Share and Blue Flag is having the same effect in Zihuatanejo. Shops that used to sell thousands of pesos of goods a day are lucky to sell a few hundred pesos worth now. Someone needs a REALITY CHECK.

All of them in Ixtapa across from the hotels. Some have sat empty for years. Many are literally crumbling. Some restaurants and many shops have closed. Discos abandoned. Most lack a paint job.

We've played the course several times over the past 15 years, and although it's not the most fantastic course, it is very scenic, and for the former price of 1000 pesos for those older than sixty, the price was not unreasonable. But NOW it is! The new owner may as well just bulldoze the course and put up his condos. Oh wait - that's probably not the wisest move right now either! Whatever, I guess we're done golfing in Ixtapa unless somebody comes up with a REAL business plan!!

Yep, I’ll be done playing there if rates raise. I never took my clubs with me to ixtapa but would bring a dozen balls and tees. The rental clubs were pretty bad for 25 dollar rental. Grips were worn or missing half way up and other clubs rattled when you hit. Carts would pull one way or another and brakes maybe. Even though I would still play at the old rate and worth the ride with ok fairways and greens. They’ll need to do some major renovations to make it even slightly better. Now wouldn’t it be amazing if the Run down Marina course took over the place to play with some TLC to there course?

I think you're right. They have installed cameras on the first tee and the 10th tee in the meantime. But the other purpose of the GPS is for the golfer who doesn't have his own yardage finder. I've found that the large, pizza sized placards at the 1oo, 150 and 200 yard mark recessed into the grass in the middle of the fairway are good enough. I actually use the trees in the rough that have a red, white or blue painted stripe on them and walk off any difference. Those are left over from the old good days when I first started playing there in the mid '80's.

The gps will give you distances to the front, middle and back of the green. Maybe the owner took a trip to Cabo and got confused, $125 would be a bargain there. At $125 a round, 2 guys could do a full day fishing on a nice panga with a good captain. Not much of a decision for me. Zihuatanejo will never be Cabo or Cancun, at least in my time, thankfully.

Padrino probably knows about Baha Mar golf course between Rosarito and Ensenada Mexico. 55 bucks to play and many holes on the ocean. Short drive across the boarder from San Diego. We’ve all played enough courses in different locations. This rate for 125.00 will be bad for all. No way the owner or the course will survive. If someone pays that price that has not played the course before they will not play it again unless they make it a top notch course and that won’t happen in Ixtapa.

I have passed it many times (I think) but in the interests of full disclosure, my only experience with golf is miniature golf. To me, real golf seems like an invitation to hours of painful frustration, heartache, and self-loathing. Of course, if you can get that little white ball into the cup 350 yards away in three shots, then you can make a whole lotta' money!

Ha! That's what I thought until I discovered a cheap golf course near my home in Gainesville. They even had night golf. We'd huff a big one or two, smack a bucket of balls on the driving range, then play Zen Golf where you check your brain at the gate and don't worry about playing like Jack Nicklaus. We just had fun. A couple of beers and joints later we were back at the clubhouse wearing big grins and red eyes.

The new gate at Palma Real looks great!! There two weeks ago. They are going to price themselves out of the game!!Sad to see them doing this on top of losing their scenic signature hole. Who owns the Marina course??? This course is the gem in the rough! Yes it needs major TLC but it has the facilities already there and just needs to be polished up!!Money would have to be spent but It still has great potential to be a major competitor to Palma Real. People are there to have fun and if the facilities and service is there, they will pay!! If not Bye Bye!!! just like what's happening to the shopping area!! People won't holiday there if its not fun, which is very sad in such a beautiful place!
