I am Canadian over 65 and have had all 5 shots that have been recommended. In my experience, I find that Covid is very much alive and thriving but to those of us that are fully vaccinated it is a non issue. My brother who has COPD and my best friend who recently had a lung removed because of mesothelioma have both contracted the disease and have lived through it fairly easily. Previously this would have been a death sentence. Everyone will have their own opinions of course but for me, if there is a vaccination I will take it as I have seen the benefits first hand.

I am 49, active and in good health, vaccinated and boosted, but I have not had the latest bivalent booster for Omicron due to timing of when we moved here. Despite being mostly outdoors here, I contracted COVID in December for the first time -- I think from a 10 min taxi ride. Based on the symptoms that presented, pretty sure it was Omicron.
It SUCKED. Not life threatening, but I couldn't sleep or eat for 3 days and wanted to amputate my throat. Then over a week of not being able to do anything. I didn't even want to watch TV because my energy was so low and my brain was dull.
Even though I got a boost from fighting it off, I want that bivalent booster ASAP next time I am in the US. Not even a question. No matter if the booster knocks me out for a day, it is worth reducing the risk of that experience again.

Why do you think you contracted Covid? Did you get tested for it? There has hardly been any here. But there is a flu going around causing sore throats. Since Lupita and I (and many locals) were vaccinated for that brand of flu, and since you probably weren't, it could've affected you more than it's affected most of us, for whom it has simply been a mild throat infection with a minor cough for a few days and a bit of lethargy. It never really affected our work or our daily routines.

Five positive tests between me and my partner. Pretty sure.
I know the official numbers have been pretty low, but as you've mentioned in your updates, the real numbers are much higher. Official numbers only come from hospitals or similar tests, and thankfully vaccines have brought hospital cases way down. Which means official numbers are even more of an undercount than they were before.
Regardless... The numbers could be zero right now, and I'd still take a booster.

My wife and I had all of the shots and we both still got Covid. Fortunately, very mild. It amazes me how many people I encounter who don't believe in vaccinations. Bad enough when adults don't get them and end up sick, but I recently met a woman with a twelve-year-old daughter, and both are unvaccinated. I can't imagine what she would feel like if she lost her daughter to something that was preventable.

I can't imagine what she would feel like if she lost her daughter to something that was preventable.
She would be devastated of course. But she would never accept the fact that a vaccine could have saved her. I'm always amazed at the capacity of people in denial to rationalize.

When I was at my mother-in-laws funeral, the funeral director came up to me (since I seemed less upset). I stopped dancing while he asked, “About your mother-in-law, do you want her embalmed, cremated or buried?” I replied, “Do all three, don’t take chances.”
The Covid bivalent booster is the same. It has been shown to be effective. There are no significant side effects. Although new variants have arisen since it was developed, it is still effective. I can’t think of a reason not to get it.

I recently saw the results of an actual, scientific study which concluded the bivalent booster provided improved resistance over any previous vaccinations. We had ours, along with a flu shot at the same time, with zero ill effects.

I wish our new premier of Alberta Danielle Smith would read these posts she's definitely a non-vaxer and a non believer, she attempted to have all charges of people convicted of covid related offenses ie non-mask wearing pardoned. In one of her pre-election speeches she noted that non-vaccinated people were the most discriminated against people she has ever seen. Recently the Alberta Association of nurses requested that all elementary school children have a mandatory mask issue due to a rise infections and hospitalizations and the premier denied their request.

My "feedback" is GOOD FOR YOU
Do what you do in your own personal style to fit YOUR lifestyle, your schedule, whatever works out best for you.
People can comment, approve, disapprove, etc., doesn't matter.
We all have our own way of doing things and conducting our lives, y punto.
About the vaccines, I would suggest following the "Official" guidelines from the corresponding Authorities.

I would hope & expect that the so called " Authorities " such as the CDC and others we confide in a rely upon,
do "follow the science".

I am vaccinated to the hilt! I am only a few months from retirement, and have worked since I was 14. There is no way I am going to take the risk of getting a disease that could interfere with my retirement plans. A bad bout of covid could leave me in the ground, or with long term covid, or various debilitating conditions that might hamper my dreams of beach time in Zihua! Bring on the next booster!
islandgirl, my thoughts exactly. PLUS I live alone!

Good morning! is there a booster available here??? I haven't heard a thing...
Our last shot was last May and it wasn't the "new" Omicron shot sooooo as I have heard of a lot more people getting "it" and confirmed by testing, I'm thinking it would be a good idea!

Might not even need to cross the border. There are many medical services parked on the Tijuana side that cater to Gringos without health insurance in the States. Must be very similar in El Paso / Juarez, yes? Any direct flights to Juarez from Zihua? Let me check ... nope. Best bet is the direct flight from Zihua to Tijuana.
Ever heard of the Valle de Guadalupe about 1 1/2 hours south of Tijuana? It's Mexico wine-growing region with many celebrated vineyards. Something to see!

When we went to California for a quick two day trip in August, we couldn't get a booster because we had to have a US address, which we do not have. So, didn't get the Omicron booster.
