DANGER- ROBBERY & VIOLENCE- IMPORTANT MESSAGE

THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL REPORTS OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF DAYS OF VIOLENCE AGAINST AND THEFT IN FRONT THE ELEKTRA ON AVE. MORELOS. MY MEXICAN GIRLFRIEND WENT TO ELEKTRA TODAY AT APPROXIMATELY 2 P.M. TO EXCHANGE MONEY FOR ME. WHEN SHE LEFT THE STORE AND BEGAN WALKING (WITH MY 5 YEAR OLD NEICE) A MAN APPROACHED HER, PULLED OUT A KNIFE AND TOLD HER TO GIVE HIM THE MONEY SHE JUST RECEIVED. SHE WAS TERRIFIED AND GAVE HIM THE MONEY. SHE WENT BACK TO ELEKTRA FOR HELP. THEY IGNORED HER. A MAN ON THE STREET FLAGGED DOWN A POLICEMAN. THE POLICE TOLD HER THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING. THERE IS A CAMERA IN FRONT OF ELECKTRA BUT THE STORE SAID THAT THE INFORMATION ON THE VIDEO WAS PRIVATE.

A PERSON WHO WAS STANDING NEAR MY GIRLFRIEND AFTER THE ROBBERY TOLD HER THAT A WOMAN WAS ASSAULTED YESTERDAY AND HER PURSE AND GOLD NECKLACE WERE STOLEN.

THE ROBBERY AGAINST MY GIRLFRIEND WAS OBVIOUSLY AND INSIDE JOB. THE MAN WORKING AT THE CAJA AT ELEKTRA MUSTED HAVE CALLED HIS ACCOMPLICE AS MY GIRLFRIEND WAS LEAVING TO ALERT HIM THAT SHE JUST EXCHANGED MONEY. THE NAME OF THIS EMPLOYEE IS LUDWIN. I WENT TO THE STORE AND TOOK A PHOTO OF HIM. I'D LIKE TO POST IT HERE FOR EVERYONE TO SEE BUT I CAN'T DETERMINE HOW POST OR ATTACH A PHOTO.

EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE VERY CAREFUL AND AWARE IF THEY'RE EXCHANGING OR WITHDRAWING MONEY FROM BANKS IN ZIHUAT.

While what happened to your girlfriend is horrible and seems to be yet another example of crime getting out of hand and jeopardizing Zihuatanejo’s tourist based economy, you are accusing someone of a crime based on conjecture without any proof, which can open you up to danger too. I would be very careful about making such accusations.

I can’t comment on the alleged events or the OP’s conjecture.

I can comment on what I see, which is that the OP posted in “all caps”, the internet equivalent of yelling at us.

eye see nothing wrong with that when issuing a warning
notice I have not used a single CAP and had to spell out eye because ‘I’ insisted to be capitalized

In addition, typing in all caps is also counterproductive if you want individuals to read your message. It is harder to read prose when it is written using all upper case letters. This is why some businesses will often use all upper case letters when they are required to alert you of something that they really don't want you to read and understand, usually because of some regulatory edicts that were designed to inform consumers of important information that may be in the customers' best interests to know and understand. The businesses know that it is more difficult for readers to wade through prose that is written in all upper case, especially if they use a sans-serif font. Many individuals start reading and then quickly give up.

P.S. I am so sorry that this unfortunate incident occurred. More and more reports like this coming out of Zihua are very disturbing.

PERHAPS YOU SHOULD PAY MORE ATTENTION TO THE CONTENT OF POSTS AND NOT BE INTIMIDATED BY THE SIZE OF THE LETTERS, little guy.

Really sorry about your experience with our local police and our criminals. A damn shame the police weren't more helpful. Glad your girlfriend is okay. She should file a report with the Ministerio Público.

Not to make light of a scary incident that could have turned out even worse, but.....

Reminds me of that cartoon showing two line-ups at an outdoor ATM: one of folks lining up to take money out of the machine, the other lined up to take the money from the first line.

If I recall Elektra's set-up, the banking area is down at the back of the store. Easy for thieves to see who has gone into the store solely to access the banking area.

A gringo friend always used the ATMs at Santander on Juarez. Soon as he had his cash, he jumped into a taxi right at the door and was gone.

A few years ago, a local cashed a very large cheque at Scotiabank on Juarez and was robbed and shot as soon as he exited the bank, right in the bank parking lot. It's the wild west, folks.

A headline to a Denver Post article this morning read 1 dead, six injured in separate shootings. This should also be alarming for people living in Denver, but it isn't because we read about shootings almost on a daily basis so why does it become so alarming when we read about crime in other cities. We all need to take the same precautions wherever are, In a restaurant wherever I am I always sit with my back to a wall facing the door.

That is some weird thinking
And the bottom line seems to be that you have become inured to (likely) senseless violence.
I hope I never am

Yes. I notice that our government (US) has issued a warning to students to avoid Mexico for spring break. I guess they like their students killed in the classroom and shopping malls.

Shall we start with ammosexuals, the 2nd Amendment, the NRA, the unwillingness of sufficient U.S. lawmakers to act, and a longfukkingetcetera.

Perhaps so,e of the things you mention are part of the cause, I think that that thing that “allowed” it to happen is a lack of adequate law emforcement. I think we define the term “allowed” differently.

There shouldn't have to be "law enforcement" in classrooms. There are too many firearms in the hands of too many unstable people. A problem most countries don't have.

When “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”, it would require a police state to prevent gun violence, including mass shootings.

Understandably, most Americans do not want a police state. The option would be to amend to US constitution. This requires political will.

Article V of the Constitution provides two ways to propose amendments to the document. Amendments may be proposed either by the Congress, through a joint resolution passed by a two-thirds vote, or by a convention called by Congress in response to applications from two-thirds of the state legislatures.

American gun lobbies promote expanded application of the second amendment. American federal politicians (largely right-wing) support this or (largely centrist) ineffectively counteract this.

(I don’t refer to “left-wing” American politicians, because the US has no political force that would be recognized in any western liberal democracy as being “left-wing”.)

The USA has more mass shooting than days in the year.

As of Wednesday, 104 mass shootings have been reported by the Gun Violence Archive this year. The non-profit organization defines a mass shooting as a minimum of four victims shot, either injured or killed. GVA data shows there were 52 mass shootings in January, 41 in February, and 12 in March.

https://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/mass-shootings-us-so-far-2023

So, by rejecting a police state and rejecting a removal of the second amendment, Americans allow (and I would argue promote) continuing gun violence, including mass shootings.

I’m curious as to how you think it was “allowed” to happen.

Now that's a silly question, IMO. No guns, no gun deaths. Hard to mass murder with switch blades, which indeed are outlawed or restricted in lots of states. Guns? No can do! Go for it. Meanwhile, offer up thoughts and prayers so you can sleep at night (not you personally, the collective gun totin' you). Of course, I could be wrong... but I'm not, and any rational thinker knows it.

And as to the original topic: I feel safer in Mexico than I do in my closest metro area, Portland, Oregon. I pretty much don't go there anymore.
