Día de las MadreZIHtas

I colorized a B&W photo of my mother with our dog Clete in St. Croix from 1971. I think it turned out pretty good. I'm eternally grateful for the sacrifices my mother made to raise her sons. I miss her every single day.

Día de las Madres seemed to be a rather subdued affair downtown. Some restaurants that had set up tables and decorations in anticipation of crowds of mothers sat empty. Quite unusual. Sales were unusually slow in downtown shops as best as we could tell. A few families and groups of women were out, but very few compared to pre-pandemia years for this date. After seeing so many restaurants not doing their usual business for this day, I'm wondering if the flower shops also had a poor day.

Saw another set of turtle tracks on the beach this morning. The second this season. I was surprised to see that she walked about a third of the length of the beach after laying her eggs. Something that isn't normal. Again, I can only guess it has to do with the extremely bright lights along the Paseo del Pescador disorienting the turtles. The local authorities have shown total indifference to the problem in spite of having it brought to their attention repeatedly. Truly disappointing.

The heat wave continues. Got up to 36°C here today and it felt even hotter with the high humidity and no breeze for most of the day. The water temperature continues slowly rising, reaching 29.1°C. No sleeping under any sheets at night, and no hot water is necessary in the shower.

Waves were huge today, washing halfway up the downtown beach and reaching the Cancha Municipal as well as spilling over the entrance to the municipal pier and flooding the boat landings on the pier. While fishermen were still able to work, it was quite dangerous for the water taxis to operate today so they had to shut down.

¡Cuidemos nuestro patrimonio!

Smoky skies at this time of year are normal from the burning of tlacololes throughout the region. The rains aren't far off.

I would just say your colorization of the photograph turned out wonderful. I say it's worthy of enlarging and hanging on your wall.
At least I would . . . . Thanks for sharing. I never met your mom.

Went swimming at La Madera Tuesday, and I'm glad I did - the waves were much larger on Wednesday.

Always loved this photo of Judith. A beautiful lady inside and out.
