Got a whatsapp from TelMex today, the first time they have ever communicated that way, so we are wondering.

States that they want to replace our current modem with a new, better one at no charge. All we have to do is call and make an appointment.

Sounds OK, but not necessarily quite right.

Anyone else been contacted like this?

That's the way they do it. Hurry! Beat the crowds. It's free! Call their office to confirm if you like. We're also getting a free increase in MB speed depending on which plan we use. What a swell guy Carlos Slim is! :bravo:

Called the next day, Wednesday, were read a bunch of disclaimers and told it would be mailed to us.

Today, received an email and the tracking number for the new modem that is arriving via RedPack. Supposedly less than 5 minutes to install it ourselves.

Thanks for your reassurance that it wasn't a scam!

So instead of sending a tech over to install it, they just mail it to you. That's new. Not bad at all! Let me know how the install goes.

Usually in the USA when you get a new modem you have to 'provision' it which usually means you notify the provider and they throw some switch on their end.
Lately there seem to be ways to do that without involving the company.
What's the procedure with TelMex?

It'll probably have been preconfigured for their account before being sent. It may simply be a plug'n'play kind of thing.

Thinking further on this, I have iPhone and they use iMessage to communicate with me. When they replaced my modem, each time I got a message AND an e-mail. I don't know about other phones that aren't iPhones, so again, check with the local office first. Tel. (755) 553-2307, *2222 or 800-123-2222.
