Okay boyz'n'girlz, it looks like we have a live one. A tropical system is forming up in the Bahía de Tehuántepec, and when they form there it means we need to pay close attention here. That's where the ones that hit our region usually form up. Stay alert and keep an eye on the local weather reports. Hopefully all we'll get is some nice gentle rain and some welcome sea breeze.

Today was a typical example of what La Canícula represents. Hot. Humid. Cloudless. No breeze. A day when comfort is elusive without A/C. A good day to do as little as possible.

It turns out the federal authorities who measured the water quality in our bay during the first 2 weeks of July, when it was still raining, have issued a nationwide alert that Playa Principal isn't apt for swimming. Yet, no warning signs have been posted nor has the local government even commented on the subject. Personally, as I've stated numerous times over the years, I believe the federal government's testing methods are flawed and not representative. Doesn't mean the beach is safe for swimming, only that as far as I know there is no reliable testing done. The city government says it tests our bay water, but it doesn't report its results with anything remotely resembling regularity, so I've no confidence in them either.

Tucked away in the heart of La Madera neighborhood within easy walking of the beach and many excellent restaurants is Canto del Mar. A very nice family-run inn featuring spacious air-conditioned suites with kitchenettes, pool, parking and internet access.
