Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa Message Board - Aeroméxico Schedule Changes

For YVR-ZIH-YVR I have previously flown on Alaska Airlines. But they changed their schedules, now requiring an overnight stay both southbound and northbound.

Then I went to WestJet, but it won’t take my dog in cargo. So it was on to AeroMéxico. I could get a 23:55 departure. This wasn’t ideal, but I would have a few hours layover in MEX, and be at ZIH about 10:30. (Well, theoretically. Sometimes AM would sell me that, then change my MEX-ZIH to an afternoon arrival.)

A couple of days ago I got an email from AM. They have changed my 23:15 departure on October 12 to 15:40, making my MEX layover 11 hours long, from 22:20 to 09:30. With my dog.

I checked other dates and didn’t see any 23:15 departures from September 1 until the middle of December. Getting to ZIH is becoming increasingly challenging.

As much as I love Troncones, I am also fortunate to live on Vancouver Island.

Many people have the misfortune of being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

My dilemma is finding myself “between a rug and a soft place”. ;-)

I was trying to book the late flight for next week and it was not available, one of the options was a 7:36am Aeromexico out of Vancouver arriving Mexico City 2:30 in the afternoon, don't arrive in Zihua till 8pm , it was on sale as well. Looks like there may be two flights a day out of Vancouver so there may be other options available?

I was concerned that I would end up with my luggage and my dog at the ZIH airport and no taxi to get to Troncones. But based on Rob’s comment I have booked onto the schedule you discussed.

I have sent email to Transporte Terrestre as well asking for a reservation for a taxi for my flight arrival. Now that I have a dog, my days of arriving at ZIH and hopping on the combi are over.

Traveling with a dog is worth it, even if it a little inconvenient. In Oct '22 I had 5 flights to get to Zihua with the pooch in cargo due to Alaska Air running their airbuses. Within a day the dog was fine.

Now that I have a dog, my days of arriving at ZIH and hopping on the combi are over.

Oh, I don't know. Your pooch could be good company for the chickens and goats on the combi.

In my many trips on combis between the airport and Zihuatanejo I have never seen an animal, not even caged.

In my many trips on micros between Troncones and Zihuatanejo, the only animal I have ever seen was a tropical (aquarium-type) fish in a plastic bag. :-)

I’m not sure that my dog-in-a-crate taking up a lot of space would be welcome on a combi. Given that the micro from Zihuatanejo to Troncones is almost always “standing room only”, I know I wouldn’t get the crate on. :-|

Ah, my apologies. It was meant to be a joke and it fell flat, I am afraid. You are correct. In 7 years of visiting often, I have only seen one little dog and its owner hid it inside a large bolsa.
