The latest report released today from 3 days ago by Guerrero's state health officials confirms 20 currently active cases of Covid-19 in Zihuatanejo, 4 in Petatlán, 1 in Técpan, 1 in Coyuca de Benítez, 18 in Acapulco, and 96 in the entire state.

The municipal government says it's installing panic buttons along Paseo del Pescador that you can push after you get held up and robbed. How comforting! They just don't get it. We need professional police who make frequent rounds. Driving by in a truck every few hours while all its occupants are texting doesn't count. But the municipal director of tourism assures us he's had "good conversations" with someone in the U.S. government somewhere. Uh huh...

Meanwhile, our absolutely picture-postcard perfect weather continues. Thunder threatened this Thursday afternoon, but it hasn't rained in so long that I had to water our plants today. Waves are a little high, but our bay protects us from the worst of the currently ongoing mar de fondo event, same as it does from many of the storms.

Looks like this is what you read.

This approach is typical and a proven deterrent.

Crooks aka slimeballs will target areas with heavy tourist foot traffic; especially Las tourista borachos.

It depends on who's watching the video cameras. So far though millions have disappeared from the public budget for video surveillance since the first ones were installed at great cost during the administration of Silvano Blanco, as far as we know here, not one single criminal has been caught or one single crime has been solved because of any local video cameras. The cameras have mostly been idle and in disrepair. Perhaps my constant harping has had some effect. They cite numerous holdups on Paseo del Pescador as the reason for installing them, but as far as any local media has reported there's only been the one holdup next to Daniel's, and the video camera at the Cancha should've been able to view the incident. However, I've been harping on them constantly for years, especially during the past few months.

Is the area between the B-Ball court and the pier a hotspot for hold-ups? Seems like that would be the least likely spot to get robbed with the outdoor dining, people congregating, the Navy and the fishermen during the mornings and day.

There has been petty stuff, but recently a little more aggressive.

They pulled a knife on a National tourist 2 weeks ago near the Museum.

No, not near the museum. Sitting in the swings next to Daniel's Restaurant. She was robbed of all her credit cards, money and 2 cellphones. Despite it being the middle of the day, the thief was not apprehended.

Panic buttons...

We saw three yesterday evening - one on the bridge over the canal where the croc lives, and two in front of the cancha. They have a green button to push with the word "Exit" above it. Not sure how any of those will do anything different than someone screaming Auxilio if they need help.
