Marina Ixtapa Golf Course Update

Hello,
We’re excited to be heading to Ixtapa for a one week last minute getaway next week. We had a great time last visit playing multiple rounds at Palma Real in early 2020. Senior rates, leaving our clubs at the course were great, but we have no interest in playing there with new rates and required caddie etc. Is it worth bringing our clubs to play 2 or 3 times at the Marina course? Any input on course conditions etc would be much appreciated thanks!

Palma Real doesn't enforce the mandatory caddy rule, but you will need to pay 2400MXP per round. You can play for 1800MXP after 2pm.
You can play at the Marina course for around 1000MXP. Nothing has changed there except everything is a year older and one year closer to collapse. It is in terrible condition. You get what you pay for.

The course itself is in terrible shape. There are several fairways that are all dirt due to flooding during rainy season. That problem has been around since the beginning and won't be fixed until those low-lying areas are raised with more dirt and then replanted or fixed with sod; and I don't see that happening any time in the near future. They have, however, rebuilt two of the many old wooden bridges with concrete crossings straight across the water, NOT like the old "humped" wooden bridges. Eventually all the crossings will be converted to concrete, but that won't be happening this season. And I believe you must buy a 50 round package to get the $1,000 peso rate. Be careful out there: Many of the golf carts are also in need of repair. Some are carry-overs from Palma Real, the rest are old carts with bad steering and bad, or non-existing, brakes. Don't tailgate, and one cart at a time over a wooden bridge.

I have a friend who played the Marina. He's a good player and 'only' lost nine balls. The rough is very deep. Two of the bridges have been replaced. The others are in poor condition. You can see the angle iron that supports them is often pitted with holes. Palma also has rough that is often a foot deep. With people arriving and the end of rainy season, they will start to make progress. I also heard the greens are very slow having been sanded recently.

Exactly! Why bother when you have to pay exorbitant fees for a shitty course? Plus you won't have to pack your clubs around!

To put it bluntly, Golf in Ixtapa sucks. Palma Real is also a dog patch any reasonable standards. And the pricing is a joke. Why bother. This is one area that local tourism doesn’t understand. The owners of both courses should be embarrassed and ashamed.

Pickle ball is from 50 to 80 pesos. You can play that for 4 hours as well. I guess i have made that switch with the change in rates.
