Does anyone know anything about a Contact Tracing requirement?
I am flying from Bogota (not the one in New Jersey) to Florida tomorrow and just received this alert from Jet Blue. Sounds so 1984. And so 2020. I flew in from
Asia in August and never got an alert like this. (I am tempted to make up a tale about tea in the Sahara with Sting and Maurice Chevalier and a capybara-hunting bivouac with Bear Grylls.)
Hi,
THE U.S. FEDERAL GOVERNMENT REQUIRES ALL CUSTOMERS TO PROVIDE CONTACT TRACING INFORMATION.
Effective May 11th, 2023 at 11:59pm, the U.S. government lifted the requirement to complete an attestation form and present proof of vaccination, however, all Customers (including U.S. passport holders) entering or returning to the U.S. must provide contact-tracing information as it continues to be required by the CDC.
Contact tracing information will be collected upon arrival at the airport – ask one of our Crewmembers. For visitors, the information provided must be the destination address – the address where you will be staying in the U.S. during your visit. For anyone that lives in the U.S., it will be your home address...

Yes, I have been having to do this upon returning to the US from abroad. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me at this point, contact tracing during the pandemic having been a failure - in the US anyway. But you do what you have to do.

Our routing to Zihua next month, from Canada, is Kelowna, BC to Seattle, then overnight in Los Angeles, before going on to Zihua.
I read something on Alaska's website about "contact tracing". I assume that means we'll have to provide, somewhere along the way, either the address of the hotel in LA, or of our final destination in Zihua.
Our return flight is the reverse routing, but we're staying overnight in both LA and in Seattle. Who knows which address they'll want.

Hello
We flew in Oct from Calgary, Canada, to Zihua. All we had to do when we arrived in Zihua was show them our passports. No need to show where we were staying or whatever. No such thing as contact tracing. Must be a USA thing.

There is a checkbox on the form to indicate that you are "passing through" the US. I suspect that is all you will need to do for your return trip.

I am in the Bogota airport and had to do the Contact Tracing form
just to get my boarding pass.
Asked where I will be travelling to and an emergency phone number and name.
Not gonna try to figure out what their motives are or what this has
to do with public health.

I love Kurt Vonnegut's governmental motto: "In Nonsense is Strength!"

I used to work in the Federal public service, for Canada's Unemployment Insurance Commission......"UIC" in the vernacular. Being government, the Ivory Tower folks regularly massaged the language to make it more "user-friendly" and "touchy-feely". That negative term, "unemployment" had to go, so we became the meaningless "Canada Employment Commission"....still entirely devoted to providing benefits to those who had become unemployed.
We also had lots of those irritating, "motivational" inter-department slogans. One the experts came up with was "Where People Matter", which we regularly defaced to read "Where People Mutter"
I asked my pal at TSA, all are welcomed..Vax, non vaxed dont need to prove anything. Covid is over, done, toast..

The Covid pandemic is over but Covid combined with RSV and influenza may provide a very interesting winter.

"Interesting" is often a euphemism for something not particularly positive nor welcome. Methinks the Good Doctor is worried about humanity letting our guard down.

On the bright side, these challenges make our immune systems stronger.
Consider the Hygiene Hypothesis- early childhood exposure to particular microorganisms (such as the gut flora and helminth parasites) protects against allergies by strengthening the immune system. Lack of such exposure is thought to lead to poor immune tolerance.
