Bus Station new Chedraui supermarket

I heard that a Chedraui was going to be built at the bus station. The Chedraui in Altozano in Morelia is really nice, but even one of the non-super Chedraui's would be welcome competition for our Soriana, which many including me think was better when it was a Commercial Mexicana. It looks like the demolition has started and I saw this link in the Guerrero Post.

It's going to be a traffic nightmare there, and local businesses including the Mercado Municipal will continue suffering with the arrival of yet another corporate-owned supermarket chain. It's as if the government wants to keep us poor and in menial labor service positions only (makes it easier to buy votes).

The first thing they tore down was my favorite open-air area for awaiting bus departures. Bummer.

All things change. Some things mutate.

And others depend solely on someone's interpretation of cost analysis versus return on investment.

We've already got speculation developers cutting down what's left of our quickly disappearing wooded hillsides and trying to squeeze something for their investors out of our Zihuatanejo cash cow with no thought for or any real knowledge of our community. Makes me want to puke on them.

Some people just cannot accept change. Most everything is far superior at the Mercado Municipal than these big chain stores but they are covenant. McDonalds may not be too far away.

EXCERPT from post by Craig AKA the cruise ship guy

Some people just cannot accept change. "

Like most things, as many people as there are, most likely they'll be a similar amount of opinions on an issue, in favor, against, pros/cons, advantages & disadvantages, etc, some subjective, others factual and objective.
Nevertheless, each one may have some valid points worth taking into account.

And YES, the world is a dynamic place, change, although at times can be detrimental in some way, shape, or form to a few people, or to many, (unless we're talking about some conserved historic monument like Stone Henge), is unavoidable,
& as Craig said "Some people just cannot accept change." , and of course they're within their rights to feel that way and do so.

One may need to adjust and adapt their modus operandi, and make some adjustments to "go with the flow",
and as Jimi's song says featuring Buddy Miles on vocals, make "Dem Changes",

In the case of the large "Big Box" supermarkets, there are ways that local small merchants can USE THEM TO THEIR ADVANTAGE.
I've done it many times when I had a local "Oasis" business, and do it to this day with my personal purchases.

I'll see if anyone can figure out exactly HOW it is that a small local merchant can use a big box store to their advantage.

UPDATE: Congratulations to participant Talley Ho for her astute and correct reply.

WAY too easy! Buy things on sale, cheaper than normal, take them back to your store and mark them up. Decide what is wanted here, hard to come by and/or expensive like watches, whatever, have willing visitors bring them down for you and sell them at a profit while still giving the buyer a good deal.

@Talley Ho

EXACTLY, & as Johnny Canales said on his "show" YOU GOT IT! :bump:

For us, YES, very easy, yet others don't pick up on that advantage, & benefit for local people, be them comerciantes, or normal shoppers.

A local merchant, as I did back then when I had a local biz, can "beat them at their own game ",
meaning selling the item they purchased on sale/promotion lower than the normal price where they bought it from, (at least on some products.)

I often find some very excellent deals, with prices that may be even lower than what the regular "wholesale" price might be for an item, even by the truckload.

Sooner or later, the big box stores typically put most things on "sale", which may create a buying opportunity for resellers.

I just found an example of this type of strategy on amazon.com.mx.
A local merchant could order the item, which at the moment is at an unheard of never seen b4 price, then resell them at a price to beat the competition, and yet still make their margin. Following is the product that typically sells here in Z for 285 - 360 pesos--->

-52% $177.00 ($0.74 / mililitro)
Precio de lista: $368.88
Microdacyn Solución, 60, 240ml, Pack of 1
Marca: Microdacyn

Competition with Sorrianna sure would be good but how would the current congested streets handle more?
