I'm going to play it tomorrow morning and will provide an update. I played Palma Real a week ago. 2,500 pesos. Carts were pretty new, but no GPS. Ice in the cooler and a bottle of water. Decent range balls included and the range itself has been flattened. Iced towels at the end of the round. The course is in good shape, a bit better than in the past. The price is well over double what I would pay for a nicer course in Texas or Florida, but the only competition here is the Marina.
I think some more of the bridges at the Marina have been replaced with no more detour out to the road on 14. It's a shame that the whole marina area is in such disrepair. Fewer boats, fewer restaurants, weeds, potholes, etc. All of the sand traps are gone on the golf course and holes 8 and 9 have no fairway grass.

The course is not in bad shape. Rough has been mowed, so minimal lost balls. Some areas are overwatered and others not watered enough. I lost a ball on 11 the par 3 that must have plugged in a wet area left of the green. Number 8 has the bridge out and you have to detour back through 5. However, steel has arrived and it looks like it was cut, so maybe it won't be that long to install. The tide was up and there was standing water in the area of 5 and 8. Salt water, so no grass will grow unless they bring in a lot of fill to raise it up over the brackish water table. Generally, I hit over the problem area on 5 to the grass and on 8 it affects the third shot. There are various lateral grass mounds to hit from in this area to take a drop. The bridges from 13 to 14 and over the water on 14 are new. The greens were ok, but on the slow side as always.

I really appreciate you sharing such helpful detailed updates on the condition of these courses with everyone. Thank you VERY much! Valuable info for visitors and residents alike.
Not sure if anyone else here remembers when Marina Ixtapa and its golf course were built, but recent discussion about crocs reminded me that hundreds of crocs were killed there illegally and shipped out to build the marina and golf course, and no one in any part of the local, state or federal government seemed to care when it was brought to their attention.

I used to play and like the Palma Real but when they raised rates 18 months ago and carts and clubs were really bad.
When I hear that range balls are decent , that s telling me they can’t even put an effort into good range balls.
At least use the lost balls for range balls. Muddy,, cut and faded range balls and charge normal price??
Some carts with brakes that will pull to the left or right, it’s Mexico right? No problem.
The place just leaves a bad taste in your mouth to over charge for a poor product.
Bad rental clubs, carts, range balls charge for a 2 nd person to ride then raise rates.
Oh well, it is what it is for some but not for me

Yes, Palma Real prices have doubled. You apparently think nothing has changed since you last played, but you would be wrong.
As to the question about the Marina course, yes, they do water it, but I swear they use salt water and kill the grass that is left. It is pretty much only played by tight budget golfers who like the area or haven't found somewhere else to go. Some golfers no longer come here.
Play will be down at both courses this year, so tee times are not necessary. Oops, you do need to check at Marina and make sure a cart will be available.

What has changed? Not sure what has been done to double price.
Please let me know. Maybe I’ll take a look next time.
Thx

Dog patch City. Golf in Ixtapa is a joke that isn’t remotely funny.

Nicely said. I haven’t played the Marina course for 15 years. Played it cuz it was a freebie after timeshare tour.
Even then I wouldn’t have paid for it.
I know it’s Mexico but still you need to maintain the obvious.
Golf carts need to drive straight and have brakes, club rentals need to have grips and match, range balls need to be round and cutting the grass is kinda important.
Now the Palma Real the past couple years is going down the same cow pasture and raised prices is a joke.
It just forces us to not play and go on another sunset cruise on the Picante.
