Internet Speed

In our condo complex, we are seeing very low speeds with Telmex Infinitum service. I'm not a TV streamer, but Netflix says you need a minimum of 3 mb per second and we are now under 2mb per second, so people with smart TVs or Firesticks are out of luck. I'm wondering if this is a localized phenomena to our condo or with more people in town and more overall internet usage, the existing pipe's bandwidth is basically rationed with lower speed to everyone. The Infinitum server comes up as Acapulco when I run the test.

The link I'm using to run the test is as follows: https://www.speedtest.net/

Do you have fiber optic? How many mps are you paying for?

Paying for 100. We are on the hill above Las Brisas and I don't think they ever ran fiber up here. I just did another speed test and it looks much better. Now running around 30 mbps.

1. Reboot your router.
2. If still the same, how's old is your modem/router from Telmex? Those things are crap and don't last. If more than 4-5 years old they should give you a new one for free.
3. If still the same, they may have a problem with the hub that branches to your building. Report it and cross your fingers.

Even the lowest speed service from Telmex should be plenty for streaming.

Recommended: get your own mesh wifi router and only use the Telmex one as a modem. Everything will work even better that way.

Also make sure the bill had been paid. Talked to someone recently who was having intermittent problems, and the cause was their auto pay credit card was cancelled. No communication from Telmex about it, and they did not get cut off, but they did get random extreme speed throttles.

Thanks for the info. My Telmex router is way old. I'm not sure if it's a DSL, but it uses a phone jack and the formerly white plastic has turned yellow. Good tip on the mesh router. I have google mesh that I'm no longer using in the US after I upgraded my service from a cable modem to fiber.
