So the government says its investigation concludes the man who died at Playa Quieta was attacked by a cocodrilo. They haven't published the report they cite, and I remain skeptical as do many other Zihuatanejenses. No mention is made of the apparent shark bites visible on the woman's leg nor of the several eyewitness accounts that claim to have seen a shark's fin during the attack. It's a conclusion that's easier for the government to manage than to say it was a shark. So now they can kill or move a few cocodrilos and pretend they did something to take care of the problem. A lot easier than going through the whole JAWS hysteria all over again. Read for yourself and draw your own conclusions.

Brief rains are in the local forecast, and though I've seen the storm clouds, so far they've remained far from downtown Zihuatanejo. The ocean remains extremely calm and clear, but we continue receiving a nice light breeze from offshore. Idyllic weather for sunbathers and vacationers, and I'm rather fond of it myself.

Visitors continue arriving and filling up streets, beaches, lodgings, restaurants and shops. Lots of families! Really good to have everyone here and to see their smiling faces.

The upstairs has 2 bedrooms with a king-size and twin beds, full kitchen, private bath, and 2 terraces. The lower level also has 2 bedrooms with a king-size and twin beds, full kitchen, 2 baths, and a terrace. A peaceful place within easy walking distance of downtown and nearby restaurants.

Just from what I know from fishing and being in the area for over 30 years, I am skeptical this was a shark attack.

Play Quieta is a very sheltered beach and shallow with lots of boat traffic around. These big sharks just do not like these types of conditions. Hope everyone stays safe.

Bull sharks are noted for going into shallower waters including freshwater estuaries. They are by far the most common shark involved in attacks on humans. Crocodiles feed at night and seldom attack a human unless provoked. I think Rob is onto something, a convenient scapegoat.

It's actually possible there were two attacks. One by a croc and one by a shark. I believe that's a worse-case scenario the políticos don't even want to deal with, though several of us locals have discussed it, including a local who was attacked by a croc in Marina Ixtapa a few years ago, unlikely as it is.

Seems the obvious question would be what is the female survivor saying?

The water is clear and she should be able to ID what bit her, no?

Precisely- where is she now and why silence on this simple matter?

That is what I have been waiting to hear also.
