The lull is over. Tourists began arriving today en masse. Sales were up, streets and sidewalks were full. Beaches were full to overflowing, and the water taxis were bringing people back from Playa Las Gatas well past dark. Having grown up on the Ohio River and the ocean, I had to laugh when I saw one of the boats arriving with red to starboard and green to port, bass ackwards. But since way too many water taxis and other boats have NO navigation lights, I still have to give them an E for effort. The Capitanía del Puerto needs to take their job more seriously.

Like many locals, we have family visiting over the holidays. It's the same for me here as it was in St. Croix and Florida. When you live in the tropics, people want to visit you for the holidays. It's something I've gotten used to, and frankly, it wouldn't be Christmas without someone visiting.

Truly one of the loveliest vacation lodgings at La Ropa in one of the most peaceful areas of our community is Villa Zanzibar, tucked away in the old original La Ropa community at the southern end of the beach a short easy walk uphill from the end of the beach.
