Local hotel occupancy rates continue insanely high at 84% for Zihuatanejo. Cifras muy alegres. There may actually be too many people here, and the ground shaking from some asshole's boombox blasting 2 blocks away certainly feels like proof of that.

We've got quite an array of some deadly looking fireworks on the beach practically in front of our home. This night can't be over soon enough for some of us. Your kilometrage may vary.

I almost felt bad for the 645,000th passenger of the year (they were shooting for 650,000 but that ain't happening) to arrive at the Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa International Airport. They say it's a record. The poor traveller got slobbered all over by local politicians and the press they pay, though they did receive a nice handmade souvenir made by a very talented friend of mine, and the local mariachi "Joyas del Mar" performed for them, so I guess that made up for it.

IT IS CROWDED. Like nothing we've ever seen. Looking forward to the end of the holiday season.

The beach in Ixtapa today was less crowded the easter! :-D

The downtown beach was a disaster zone, with dozens of people camping out and garbage everywhere from all the revelers. I feel bad for the barrenderos de playa who certainly have a thankless job today cleaning up trash and dealing with the drunks, some who didn't even wake up when a pack of dogs passed by and pissed on them. The live music didn't stop until around 6 A.M., and even then there was a group of bongo bimbos or whatever they're called still feebly going at it. Bom.... Bom.... Bom...

Surprisingly the fireworks weren't that bad in our home. The WHUMPF from each of the big ones launching shook the ground a bit, but the explosions weren't bad at all with our windows closed and the A/C on. We rather enjoyed the spectacle.

I've read about some fireworks now being made to muffle the big bangs. If that is the case it would be an improvement.

Meanwhile on la ropa, they thought the best spot for the mortars was meters from the incubating turtle eggs. Because ecology is important!

The current municipal administration cares nothing about the ecology. Only cement. That photo is a classic example of how to do something very wrong.

This is unbelievable. Come on ... can't they do better. :-(

First they have to genuinely WANT to. A problem that's been around since the beloved and well respected Kapi Bustos stated many years ago: "Zihuatanejo necesita políticos con AMOR por el pueblo." An urgent observation in its day, but even more so now as their unbridled ambitions push Zihuatanejo towards becoming another Acapulco, a place Zihuatanajenses had always boasted about NEVER wishing to imitate. A sad end to such a beautiful story.

Tu Zihuatanejo no es el mismo. Por muchas razones.

Fireworks is on its way out….many cities banning their sale and use. Even on New Year’s Eve Seattle had a huge display using drones. Some bombs at midnight, but much quieter than normal.

While the drone display was amazing, it was done before the standard pyrotechnic show shot from the Space Needle.
