Lupita and I were fortunate to be serenaded yesterday by Zihuatanejo's greatest singer and musical talent, Francisco Mendoza, whom you've probably seen singing with the Mariachi Los Torcazos. I was too busy enjoying the moment to fiddle around with a cellphone camera. But oh, what a magical moment. Of course my wife knew the words to the songs and sang along a bit. She grew up singing and used to sing in Ixtapa 40+ years ago, and Francisco is an amazingly talented singer whom we've had the pleasure of knowing for decades since I worked at the Hotel Sheraton (now Barceló). I'm frequently left dumbfounded but in ecstasy at the same time by moments like this.

Our dog Blue had a rough time last night with the fireworks right outside his window. Lupita and I watched through our own picture window where Lupita looked even more amazing silhouetted against the fireworks going off behind her. We both love our new home!

Unfortunately a person was hit with a "stray" bullet last night at the Muelle Municipal and taken to the hospital. I'm unaware of their current condition.

The beach was a sad sight this morning. Drunks had slept all up and down the downtown beach, some still making undecipherable hissing and slurring sounds. Their refuse of cups, cans, bottles, plates, fireworks (some unused), flowers, stems from bunches of grapes, and assorted misplaced articles of clothing strewn about from the sidewalk to the surf. I tried not to think of where everyone went to the bathroom but kept a wary eye out for land mines. I was rewarded for my wariness with treasure from the beach: a perfectly intact unopened can of Victoria beer which I washed, cooled and am now currently enjoying. Treasure is treasure!

The cifras alegres continue unabated with Zihuatanejo now registering an 87.5% occupancy rate. Good news for hotel owners, but it still doesn't justify building any more hotels or condos. While it's good to be "full", thank goodness this madness ends after a few days and all these people go back to where they came from. No one needs to build anything new here. We're all good for the moment. Enjoy your vacation but please don't forget to go home. ¡Salud!

Is it likely most of the vacationing hordes will leave Zihua on or before January 6th?

Yes. Classes start on the 8th and families will want to get their little angels ready for school.

Ditto! I always wondered if the reason that Rob has rarely offered any photos of himself was that he was as ugly as me. That is certainly not the case.

Lucky Guy!

Note: It is rare these days but in Tijuana when a gringo was walking down the street with a Mexicana, he would be bombarded with the grito, "Lucky Guy!" This was followed invariably by, "Hey, Lucky Guy, wanna' get married?"
