As a Mexican I couldn't be happier watching our super-peso gaining ground on the dollar. It sure makes my bills and taxes in dollars easier to pay. This Sunday it was 16.88 pesos to the dollar. And to think 6 years ago so many "experts" were saying how AMLO was going to make Mexico like Venezuela and Cuba. Ha friggin ha!

Last Saturday night at the palenque in Petatlán all hell broke loose when a shootout occurred, killing several attendees and injuring many more. For anyone who thinks they'd like to attend such an event, they frequently end in shootouts in this part of Guerrero.

Zihuatanejo almost seemed empty today, though drunks woke us up around 5 in the morning. Amazingly, I watched as police arrived, checked their IDs and apparently told them to tone it down, which they did until the police left. But at daybreak the drunks were gone, and very few people were still present on the beach, though there were some obvious recent bus arrivals with all their luggage sitting around the basketball court waiting for the pier to open to go to Las Gatas. One large group decided to take advantage of an early breakfast at Café Marina, which opens early mostly for foreigners who like to watch the fishermen arrive at dawn.

Personally, I enjoy seeing our national tourists who are mostly families. We should always make them feel welcome even if they aren't always big spenders. When they have a good time here then they tell their family and friends and help generate more tourism for us.

Our weather continues to be absolutely picture-postcard-perfect! We had a mostly overcast day and even some light sprinkles at various times of the day and evening, but the sun was still bright enough and hot enough to make the beaches enjoyable for our visitors. The water temperature continues cooling, today at 28.7°C. No snow in the forecast!

Aside from the cruelty to the animals, never a safe environment in GRO.

Avoid the Cockfights!

Someone tried to get me to go to a cockfight in Troncones last year. Aside from the cruelty, I noted that it started at 11:00 p.m.

That’s an hour or two after my bedtime. (I get up before 6:00 a.m.) A lot more stupidity happens between 11:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. than between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. ;-)

Strong peso is good for some things but not for everything. Already much grumbling around the golf course about the cost of living here since last year. Several regs not coming back this year because it is too expensive for them now. Even if the price of something is the same as last year, (in pesos) it is now 15% more this year. And very little is the same price as last year. Mexico will probably have fewer visitors from the US and Canada this year.

The effects of currency fluctuation are subtle and complex. The US and Canada might very well experience more Mexican tourists.

Can you explain your statement a little more? How? WHY?
