Signs in English

Just read a story there is consideration to add English language signs around town to help navigate English speaking tourists (Canadian was emphasized). The story added that some locals fear gentrification, etc.
I personally would not want to see the addition of English language signs.
What are your thoughts?

Several Appliances we just bought did not come with an English version of instruction manual. How about WE START THERE!

I see nothing wrong with posting signs in English in an area that wants/needs visitors from the US and Canada. There are many instances here where you have the option to select information or instructions in Spanish.

An instruction manual? In any language?
It seems to me that all I ever get is a QR code to get to a manual.
I’m glad I have an iPad. I doubt I would be able to read a manual in any language on my phone.

Nope. 1 manual in Spanish for the Bosch hot water heater [which is a piece of junk]
Looked online for over 25 minutes no manual in English.

I would be all for it providing the names and directions were wrong.

Or, take a photo of who raises their hand to "one way", or inform their passenger to exit the vehicle.

How about we all start to learn Spanish. We are in Mexico, why should they change for us, we should change for them. This sounds like the French in Canada or anywhere they go wanting French signs everywhere

It seems that most/a lot of the big store in the western US have Spanish below the English version. I never heard anyone complain about this.

Being always curious about this sort of thing, where did you "just read a story" on this subject? What is the source?
It is said -- in partial jest, I suppose -- that you can walk for three blocks in downtown San Miguel de Allende -- a town overrun with gringos/as -- and for all the English, not hear a single word of Spanish.
I wonder, did such "gentrification" begin with signs?

Here's the Google English translation of the article:
LOCAL BUSINESSMEN POINT OUT THAT SIGNAGE AND LOCATION PLANS IN ENGLISH ARE NECESSARY IN #Zihuatanejo * Derived from the fact that those who frequented the port now reside there. Zihuatanejo, Gro., January 30, 2024.- Due to the serious global social phenomenon of gentrification, this phenomenon has ended the Canadian tourism season, resulting from the fact that those who frequented the port now reside there.
Derived from the above, the president of the Citizen Tourism Council of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Ricardo Gómez Cardoso, believes that it is now necessary to install signage and location plans in English and to include maps for orientation, he said in an interview. He noted that the increase in international residents and not only from Canada and the United States; Well, they also come from other countries and as proof is that in the hostel that he manages there are tourists from London, England; There are also Italians and French; to give a couple of examples. It is time to implement signage in both Spanish and English, because it is already a destination with international recognition and it is important to guide visitors; For example, some foreigners get lost or don't know where to turn and if there are those information points they can easily find their way. Gómez Cardoso said: “Like when you go to international destinations and you find these location maps and they tell you, you are standing here, and from there they show you the different options where you can go, by car or walking.” This type of infrastructure is important because Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo is growing as one of the tourist destinations in Mexico best positioned abroad, and both signage and service in English and French must improve."
As usual, with these Google translations, they seldom make much sense. Or maybe it's the convoluted thinking of the originator? That first non-sensical paragraph, about the ending of the Canadian tourism season, is a prime example.
As an aside, many signs in Cuba are posted in English, Spanish..... and Russian.

Mil Gracias....
Maybe when City Hall gets finished tearing up pedestrian lanes in the downtown core, due to start today, they can get around to doing with signs what Google map appears to already do quite well -- direct folks around town.

Essentially all smart phones will auto-translate text. Just turn on your camera and point it at the sign.

How about all the businesses in the US that have signs in Spanish(and maybe English too)? Do you hear people demanding "English only!" What if you made them take down all signs not in English. Oh, I can hear the cries of racism already. Shouldn't businesses be able to have any kind of signage permitted within the ordinances. It's their business. Let them do what they feel is best for them.

Now we can get lost in two languages and have twice as much fun. Seriously, Germany has English signs, Netherlands has English signs, Quebec has English Signs, China has English Signs, Korea has English Signs, Japan has English signs, Do I need to keep going? And America has just about every language listed on documents and manuals. So, for a Mexico town that is visited by Many English Speaking visitors to place a courtesy sign here and there in English? It is smart hospitality. Oh I forgot, Scotland has English signs for good reason.
