The Hospital IMSS Bienestar (Hospital General) is once again functioning "normally". The labor problems have apparently been resolved.

Mexico's Presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador will be in Zihuatanejo this Saturday morning at 09:00 at the Unidad Deportiva. If anyone has any petitions they would like to deliver to him, this is your opportunity. I expect he will be quite warmly received here as he was on his last visit in 2018 when he promised to return if he won the election. He remains one of the most popular presidents Mexico has ever had.

After a beautiful partly cloudy day of light breezes and warm temps, we had a light sprinkle of rain this evening in downtown Zihuatanejo. Just enough to send the dancers home from Plaza del Artista and to send the artists scurrying to safeguard their paintings. La Noria had a sprinkle a bit earlier. It looks like more is on the way. But still no snow in our forecast.

The water temp remains a cool 27.6°C. That's just about too cold for locals.

So did any of you participate in the mass wedding at Playa La Ropa this Friday?

No wonder why I saw all the increased military tonight.

Going to pass on town altogether tomorrow.

Wouldn't this be a good opportunity to alert President López Obrador of the picadilloes being perpetrated against Zihuatanejo?

It certainly is, and friends of mine will be there with their letters in hand. His ecology agency has already been alerted.

Question for AMLO: An intelligence unit of the Mexican Army recently reported (Guacamaya leaks) that there are now nine more criminal organizations operating in Mexico than when "el President" took office five years ago. Could he please explain...

That's easy. The war on drugs is a failure, but the world's largest market for stupidly banned recreational substances remains the USA, so besides handing organized violent criminals a multi-billion dollar black market on a platter, especially after what the DEA did in Colombia, the USA is also apparently more than willing to continue arming them. Each time a capo falls, like a hydra, several others vie to take his place. So keep arresting them and keep watching them multiply and become even more aggressive. The capos of 20 or 30 years ago were practically gentlemen compared to the monsters of today. Yet the failed war-on-drugs prohibition policies remain unchanged with the minor exception of marijuana in some U.S. states.

So SIMPLE minded to think the cartel is only drugs.

Not the point. Their main source of income by far remains stupidly banned popular recreational substances. Take that away and we have a much more level playing field for law enforcement to deal with more traditional criminal activities. No other criminal enterprise comes anywhere close to the drug trade except arms dealing.

No one has ever said that we will rid the world of organized crime by legalizing the drug trade. However, we will remove their major income stream. It would be good to review the history of Prohibition I against alcohol. It is so hard to believe that we didn't learn from that disaster.

Drug Crazy: How We Got into This Mess and How We Can Get Out
Book by Mike Gray

Those who forget the mistakes of history are condemned to repeat them, and unfortunately the disaster of alcohol Prohibition in the 1920s occurred too long ago for most of us to remember it.

Recipients of the Bienestar programs were invited. I received a text message. I suppose anyone could've gone because the president has always been extremely open and accessible.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Zihuatanejo is no longer a farming community. Local comerciantes owners seem to be doing a decent business. "Bienestar" is a set of social programs designed to help raise people out of poverty and to stimulate the economy, and apparently it's making a huge difference here and across the country. If you're referring to public safety, I hold the mayor responsible for the failings of our local municipal police.
