A friend who lives near Petacalco is going to pick us up from ZIH for a 1 week visit/vacation. Should we wait inside the airport for him to find us in the lobby? Is the airport under construction now? Any other safety tips? Thank you. Rocky

It's a real hassle to park then have to pay inside before leaving, so don't recommend that you wait in the lobby for him to find you. I recommend you all wait just inside the airport main entrance doors in the A/C and keep an eye out for your friend's vehicle, and have him pick you up at the airport's main entrance doors.

The most recent times that I picked someone up at the airport (I’m thinking in November 2022 and in November 2023) there was also a place to pay outside, in the parking lot, at the arrivals end.

The earlier time there was a person at the payment station helping people to pay, get there validated ticket, and telling them how to use it.

My experience has been that the time when someone comes out of arrivals can be extremely variable. In 2023 my friend was one of the first ones out.

In 2022 he had not come out and the airline people told me all passengers had left. My friend came out about 10 minutes later, M$1,500 lighter, having been charged that much for bringing an Apple TV for me. The retail price is US$130.

I was glad I had parked and waited.

Isn't that what cellphones are for? But yeah, point taken.

That might be good for Mexicans and some Americans who have cell phone plans that include “roaming” in Mexico.

Not for Canadians.

Rogers, the major cell phone company charges C$3.00 - C$3.50 per call-minute to “roam” in Mexico. And if the person doing the pickup has a Canadian cell number, they also have the charge. Oh, and it would be a long distance phone call between the two phones.

Paid parking looks pretty cheap and convenient in comparison. :-D

Rogers, Telus and I think Bell now have North America plans that include data, long distance calling, texts, the whole enchilada from , to and within Canada, US and Mexico. It was $5 CDN a month to switch to that plan.

The other good thing is after you leave Mexico and return to Canada you can cancel your CAN/US/Mex plan and take the latest greatest deal the offer.

I am with Telus and my wife is with Rogers and we are both on this new plan for our 3 months here.

So are our friend’s visiting us from Canada here now and our daughter is coming in 2 weeks and doing the same

:rollingonthefloorlaughing: That's good to hear. Where's this new kiosk? I haven't been to the airport for ages. It was much better originally when we could pay on the way out at the same booth we got our ticket from upon entering.

Earlier this week, I parked outside the arrivals area and stayed with my car. which I've done in the past. A national guard person hit me up for 500 pesos, which supposedly was going to be less than a ticket. Then I drove around three times until I saw my friends. Next time, I'll wait at Andy's shop and have them send me a text.

if your wait is less than an hour, its not that big a deal to park, take your receipt in and when you find your party, pay the fee for parking as you leave the terminal. Normally less than 100 pesos.

We only pick up our two close friends from the US and one who goes to Mexico City for eye work.

We have learned that we can watch the arrivals, and our house is just 15 minutes from the airport. We have them call when they have cleared customs. No sooner. Then, they can relax a few, and we don't have to drive in circles. Before it was 10 minutes, other times 1.5 hours. SO much easier!

When coming from Mexico City, customs is done, and call us as soon as you can when you plane lands.

Makes it no hassle, no sweat.
