Very glad to see the much improved lighting and wider walk. There seems a lot more activity/business. Good job!

They cut down all the shade trees and paved over 3 meters more of beach. We lost Plaza Olof Palme altogether with its majestic Washingtonia Palms. I'm not happy at all. The ambient heat is quite noticeable, especially during summer months, and during the day it has no shade so many people don't use it. The lighting causes the sea turtles to become disoriented and either lay eggs too near the water or not at all, and when their eggs hatch the hatchlings head for the lights instead of the ocean, so we keep finding them in the plaza, the street, one even entered our home, and some simply tire out and die before finding the water. So it's also an ecological hazard. But hey, the mayor got to make some major $$ pouring his cement, and now he's doing the same thing to the downtown pedestrian streets whose businesses are having to close during the high season, losing tens of thousand of pesos in revenue. But as long as he makes his money he doesn't care. His wife is running to replace him in the upcoming elections.

All the tall palm trees, all the almendro trees and several others in this photo are all gone.

Cutting down trees like those must be a crime. If not, it should be.

South Beach (Miami) has gone to hell in the last 15 years with too much glass and concrete. And high prices. Are we witnessing the South Beach-ification of Zihuatanejo?

In the celebrated book, The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People by Stephen Covey, the fifth habit is Seek First to Understand, then Be Understood. It is wise advice.

In all honesty, I would really like to know. It is because of individuals such as yourself that I avoid virtually all Internet forums except for this one. For some reason, individuals believe they can behave in a manner that they would never contemplate when in person.

I had a dead tree removed from our front yard on La Madera so it could be replaced with a living one, a few years ago, and one of our Mexican neighbors told me that we had broken the law. No repercussions followed.

Just this morning several beachgoers and I were trying to rescue baby turtles that had hatched and spent the night disoriented on the beach because of the bright lights, only to be devoured by pelicans when the sun came up because they were too weak to walk or swim.
