The parade was a huge disappointment this morning. I believe it was the smallest parade for Día del Trabajador that we've ever had. More than one group who marched had signs asking for a new modern hospital and better medical services. Something locals have been asking for for about 20 years now with nothing but empty promises from municipal authorities.

Not many tourists showed up. Sales were slow even though hardly any stores were open. We also noticed that the few restaurants that opened weren't full, which is odd given that most didn't even open, so there were few choices for folks eating out.

The biggest event of the day in Zihuatanejo was the visit by the presidential candidate Claudia Sheinbaum at the Unidad Deportiva. Some newspaper estimated around 7,000 people showed up, but it looked like about twice that. She endorsed the local Morena candidate for mayor, Leo Chávez, who DOESN'T own a cement company.

Today was a little warmer than the previous day, and there was hardly any breeze most of the day, making it feel even hotter. The waves have died down, and the water temp reached about 27.3°C. Refreshing and perfect for swimming. This Thursday is expected to be even hotter, with temps reaching around 33°C and without much breeze until the late afternoon. Even though it's predicted to be cloudy, no rain is expected.

Our "new" bus station opened yesterday. It's much smaller than the previous one, and frankly it doesn't look adequate for Zihuatanejo's needs. It's next to the old bus station, but about a tenth of the size.

The Cinema Flamingo in Ixtapa has finally reopened! Keep up with their movie schedule as well as that of Cinemex here:

This Thursday evening it looks like the pier will be closed for the dinner of the sports fishermen participating in the Torneo de Pez Vela being held this Friday, Saturday & Sunday.

The people who assist at the automatic check out at Mega Soriana - I do not know if they are paid or rely on tips - were wearing Liz Tapia t-shirts and ball caps the other day. As many commentators point out, Mexico is a First world country and a Third world country.

Where I vote, when I see corporations supporting a candidate, I look elsewhere.

That's not fair! Corporations are people, too, you know. The U.S. Supreme Court said so. They have feelings and loved ones and dreams and ambitions ... and lots of money!

I get the first two sentences, but I disagree with the last sentence. As The Corporation points out, corporations display the characteristics of being psychopaths.

My apologies. It was supposed to be a joke. But alas, as with many of my humble offerings, it fell flat.

No, I got the joke. I was trying to build on it. Maybe we both fell flat, or maybe others are chuckling quietly.

I remember reading the following comment during the decades of the PRI’s “perfect dictatorship”,

“Show me a politician who doesn’t become wealthy while in office and I’ll show you a poor politician.” :-(

Yet way too many PRI politicians continue getting rich in office while remaining extremely poor politicians.

Carlos Hank Gonzalez is credited with a more concise statement:

"A politician who is poor is a poor politician."
