Came across a 1955 movie with a lot of Zihua beach scenes, particularly the last 30 minutes.
There's that one northernmost outcrop of rocks at La Ropa that looks more ...well...croppy. And a pier that ...doesn't exist anymore?
La Vida No Vale Nada with Pedro Infante. And Magda Guzman.
Not great but at least it's not "woked out" like Disney or full of superheroes like too many contemporary films.

I used to own that movie on DVD. I enjoyed it and when someone heard I had it loaned it and never got it back. Maybe I’ll try the YouTube link.

I remember watching it thinking what a v]completely different place Zihuatanejo, Mexico, and the world was at that time. An aunt had married a wealthy man in Calgary Alberta in 1954. For their honeymoon they drove to Mexico City, went to the pyramids at Teotihuacán, then Veracruz, and back. I cannot imagine what an adventure that would have been.

I visited Teotihuacán in the early 1980s. I would love to have seen them and Mexico City in the 1950s. I used to listen to Mexico City radio station, “El Fonógrafo” to immerse myself in that time and place. I might try that again.

The stars Pedro Infante, Domingo Soler, Lilia Prado and Wolf Ruvinskis dominate the segment filmed in Zihuatanejo. If you look carefully you'll see our dear old friend doña Caritina Galeana (QEPD) in one of the Zihuatanejo scenes. My wife's family home at that time was more or less where Daniel's restaurant is located. Several scenes were filmed in front of and beside their home. My wife even got a kiss on the cheek from Pedro Infante, who at that time was already Mexico's superstar. Besides the scenes at La Ropa, there's also a great scene filmed in the small cove between Playa Principal and Playa Las Manzanillas called Playa Lerdo de Tejada.

Let me know if anyone can find the movie "Besos de Arena", also filmed in Zihuatanejo and one of my wife's favorites. "Las Pirañas Aman en Cueresma" is another excellent movie filmed in Zihuatanejo in 1969 where doña Cari also appears.

3 minutes of Besos de Arena with the obligatory horizontal "Burt Lancaster" scene at the end. Something tells me From Here to Eternity was borrowed by many, many films after its critical and commercial success.

And the Las Piranas film is here:
