Early this Saturday morning a couple of hours before sunrise we finally got the rain that had worked its way up along the coast from the night before. It barely brought down the temperatures, but the plants enjoyed it.

Hard to believe the autumnal equinox is this Sunday! Happy fall, y'all!

We all certainly felt today's 4.8 temblor at 1:54 this Saturday afternoon. I haven't heard of any damage anywhere, but plenty of neighbors also ran out into the street with us, so it was widely felt in the region even though the epicenter was 21km away. Oddly, it wasn't felt in Mexico City where quakes this size located in Guerrero usually cause their alarms to go off.

Another warm and humid day in Zihuatanejo with hardly any breeze. It sprinkled lightly right after sunset, but not enough to make a difference. We really need the rain.

A very few tourists were out'n'about today although the state tourism office's cifras alegres say Ixtapa has around 70% occupancy. They must've all stayed in their hotels all day. No crowds anywhere. Plenty of room at the beaches and at the restaurants and bars. Plenty of room on the waves for surfers. This is a wonderful time to be here with our low season rates in effect and plenty of availability at most of our local lodgings.

[image]There's an enchanting small boutique hotel with a pool located just a few steps from the beach at Playa La Ropa named Hotel Villas Las Azucenas. They offer a luxurious Penthouse; 3 Master Suites with an ocean view, mini-pool and kitchenette; 8 Suites with kitchenettes; 5 Junior Suites with kitchenettes; and 5 Standard Rooms without kitchenettes. Relaxation guaranteed!

It's a crying shame to see so many useful idiots used to legitimize a totally illegal and corrupt municipal project that no one asked for, that I'm aware of. It's difficult to respect such people. Other locals have written much more eloquently than I could about the loss to the Zihuatanejo community due to this unnecessary addition of tons of hot cement to what was a lovely mostly natural part of our coastline that was still a pleasure to stroll as well as to swim and snorkel, and now also the part of the coastline in our bay that emits the most light pollution. But now a tiny beach is gone that most Zihuatanejo residents never knew existed in a part of the bay they've never visited, a coralline marine ecosystem is buried under tons of rock and cement, and a statue is dedicated in the name of someone who never existed for something there is no actual proof of them doing. Such things are only possible with corrupt politicians who believe they are above the law and a poorly informed public of sycophants and useful idiots. I'm not sorry if I've offended anyone. Like many other Zihuatanejenses, I'm offended by the project and anyone who would endorse it.

I hope other people who feel similarly will file a complaint with PROFEPA. I have, as have others, but the more voices the better to get action from a federal government that seems oblivious to any part of Guerrero that isn't Acapulco.

How is it that these kind of ani keep getting elected?

A truly remarkable election. The mayor since the beginning of his first term poured millions into promoting the image of his wife, who amazingly was elected in a region where the great majority of votes went overwhelmingly to the Morena party. When the mayor's wife's opposition lost and asked for the election officials to explain how it was possible that her opponent received more votes at several polling stations than there were registered voters on those rolls (out-of-towners can only vote at special polling stations, so that couldn't be the reason), the election officials brushed it aside and said she had to prove her claim instead of them simply reviewing the data that apparently clearly showed an inexplicable irregularity. In Guerrero some things never change.

The event would've been much more successful at the Muelle Municipal or really anywhere else other than at an allegedly illegal public project that many locals I know and respect refuse to celebrate.

We watched the car traffic go by, and the streets were lined with parked cars all the way back to Jungle Pizza.

It's been years since we got over to Las Gatas: getting on and off the pangas was too dicey. Does the new paseo go all the way to Playa Las Gatas, or does it still require scrambling over rocks? If the latter, why wouldn't they have extended it all the way to the beach?

They did not touch the path, it is unchanged.

They did enough damage with what they did.

Yes, there is still some "scrambling over rocks." Not too much but if someone has trouble getting on and off a panga, they might well have trouble navigating the path.

Not too worry. With the current trajectory of Zihua local government, you will have your wish of a glorious, concrete path all the way from La Ropa to Las Gatas.

We'd love to spend a day over at Las Gatas again, and walk around Owen Lee's old haunts. Unfortunately we can no longer chance the pangas or scramble over large rocks. (Sigh)

Are you sure you can't find a panga that would be easy to get on and off? The locals would be happy to help you find one.

A wave runner from La Ropa can get you to Las Gatas comfortably. That's how I got Keith Richards and his family there. They'll take you right to the beach where you simply stand up and walk away. My old friend Felipe operates wave runners at La Ropa. Ask around for him and I'm sure he'll be glad to help you. Tell Felipe I sent you and he'll give you a nice discount.

As we can see here, many like the CEMENT and DISNEYLAND appeal !!!!
And wouldn't mind if Las Gatas was even more crowded with people.
About time for me to vacate Zihua!!!!!!!!!
