In spite of what is to most locals quite devastating news from the USA, life is still normal here for us in Zihuatanejo. Locals treat it like a death in the family of all the Gringos, a lamentable loss, and they are grieving with you, but also one that folks abroad see as causing deep shame for the USA.

The Gobernadora was in Zihuatanejo this Wednesday to hold opening ceremonies for the Partenón and the new La Ropa walkway. We had no desire to attend either event, both representing the excesses of our politicians, but I'm sure attendees were thrilled with the bright and shiny new objects and all the glorification speeches. The Filarmónica de Acapulco was surely a treat as they've always been when they've played locally. I hope this doesn't mean they won't be playing at our Cancha Municipal anymore for the regular locals.

Meanwhile, downtown was practically devoid of people out'n'about this evening. There was hardly a tourist in sight, national or international. Most restaurants were mostly empty.

You may have heard that Mexicana is offering flights to Acapulco. This isn't the first time we've had them. Lack of interest saw these flights cancelled on previous occasions. But with all the problems on the coastal highway lately, this time may be the charm.

The bulk of turtle nesting season is over, but they pretty much arrive all year around. However, with the end of the rains, the ocean water clarity is again excellent, and it's a good time for snorkeling and diving.

[image]Speaking of snorkeling and diving, for an unforgettable experience, I recommend a diving trip with my dear friend Thierry from Carlo Scuba based at Playa Las Gatas. Thierry is a 3rd generation local diver, and no one knows our local waters better than he does. He offers exciting guided tours of the best dive spots around as well as instruction and certification. Fully PADI qualified.
