Monday night's rain started late after most of us were in bed. A light rain that continued throughout the night until just around sunrise. It brought the temperatures down and made for wonderful sleeping weather, cool enough to sleep under the sheets. When I took our dog for his morning walk the rain had just stopped and the air smelled fresh and clean. Wonderful!
It just started raining again this Tuesday evening. I LOVE it!
Of course the downside to each rain we get is the incredible amount of garbage our local government continues allowing to wash into the bay, lining the beach in the morning with thousands of plastic bottles, bottle tops, plastic bags, and countless other items that come from the streets and hillsides. No one is ever fined for littering, and so absolutely nothing has changed at all regarding garbage on the beach after a rain in the 36 years I've lived here. It's quite disheartening.
I was also saddened to see that a sea turtle had laid its eggs barely above the waterline in front of where the current beach soccer area where its chain-link fence blocks access to the beach. The extremely bright lights there are left on all night long, and they disorient the nesting sea turtles, but unfortunately our city office of Ecología appears indifferent to this problem.
Don't forget this Wednesday morning is the parade to commemorate the 114th anniversary of Mexico's Día de la Revolución. Schoolchildren have been rehearsing hard for the past couple of days for their long march down Cinco de Mayo, along Calle Juan N. Álvarez and up Avenida Benito Juárez. Come get a table early at the Café Caracol next to Plaza del Artista for a great view of the parade. The parade starts at 8 A.M.
