Perhaps Trump believes he can buy the Gulf and name it what he pleases, though why he wouldn't name it the Gulf of Trump is beyond me. It may still come to that. But that doesn't mean anyone else has to follow suit. I suppose right-wing cartographers - you know, the ones who draw up their hurricane maps with Sharpies and crayons - might need to tow the line if they want to keep their jobs.

Some company (PF Chang) tried to sell "Krab" (imitation crab) but it got hit with a class-action lawsuit. I remember a very similar conflict from about 35 years ago, I reckon PF Chang imitated the imitators. And then there is "Ray's Pizza" in NY City. That's a Godfather-like saga in itself.

Anyhow, I chuck in some dirty laundry and the the thing breaks. I open it up all the parts said made in c...a (not made in USA at all).

Many decades ago, pre-China, (and pre-FOX SNOOZE lies and conspiracies), when everything seemed to be made in Japan, there was a story making the rounds that the Japanese had changed the name of one of their main manufacturing cities to "Usa" so they could label their products with the misleading "MADE IN USA".

I agree the other two are smarter, but Trump is sneakier. Smart like a fox to get what he wants. His BS with owning Greenland is a tactic to get something else from Greenland/ Denmark. I do not know what it is, but he will get something out of this. And the Gulf of Mexico/ America? haha, well he sure stirred the pot on that one. No one is hurt, but it sure brought out the How Dare You. I thought the reply from President Claudia was perfect. She is smarter than Trump and her reaction was probably respected by Trump. He knows that she can shoot back using the same rhetoric that he uses. I think the two can accomplish a lot behind closed doors but will show a different image to the media. Pretty smart on both their parts.

While technically it could be called the Gulf of America, since Mexico is part of North America, changing the name seems kind of silly. Since Florida is part of the United States, perhaps we should rid Mar a Lago of its Spanish name and just call it Trump's Toilet.

Peter Mansbridge (all you Canadians know who he is) reminded us today that the North Sea used to be called the German Sea. The British decided, unilaterally, to change the name to the North Sea during WW1. The world obviously yawned....and went along. Apparently, some maps still refer to it as the German Sea.
So don't bet against The Moron getting his way. It could be worse: I'd be hurling every time it was called "Trump's Gulf."
