I'm in the early stages of buying a new car from the dealer in Zihua. I was golfing with a friend today who told me you now need to be a permanent resident of Mexico in order to purchase new cars. Said it was a new regulation that started the first of the year. Can anyone verify if correct or not?

If MexLaw.com is to be believed, it sure looks as though you need residency now.

The issue is registering the vehicle. Everything I'm reading says either type of residency will do, but it's only 20 days into the new year The dealer will absolutely know. Good luck.
