Does anyone know the beach regulations regarding the usage of sumbellas and shade coverings (the ones there 10x8 and slope to ground)? We were advised by an Ecological Official that our shade cloth was unauthorized although many canopies which anre far more invasive are erected all over La Ropa. Thank you.

I wish folks would record these kinds of encounters so we could share them and shame local officials. Very unfortunately, since being designated a "Blue Flag" beach, La Ropa is now a semi-privatized elitist beach where most locals no longer go because we don't feel welcome there and we don't wish to spend all our money in expensive beachfront tourist-trap restaurants. Apparently, long gone are the days when we could throw a petate and a towel on the beach, bring our own food and drinks and enjoy THE BEACH like we've done our entire lives. Since you're a foreigner, there's no good way to put the beach gestapo in their place as I or almost any other local would've done. I would go to a different beach where I felt more welcomed. You won't be mistreated at Playa Principal, Playa Larga, Playa Blanca, La Barrita, Troncones, Playa La Majahua, or Playa La Saladita. All are normal beaches where everyone is still welcome. Wish I had better news, but our local authorities simply don't care that they're driving people away with their stupid and totally unnecessary rules. They're politicians who don't depend on tourism to make a living.
