This Chrome extension will change 'Gulf of America' back to 'Gulf of Mexico'

The Trump White House is excluding the Associated Press, one of the longest-standing, most respected news reporting services in the world from White House briefings and from Air Force 1 press pooling because it refers to the Gulf of Mexico.

I wonder what punishments and persecutions will befall this fellow.

He appears to be interested in seizing Gaza from Palestinians and Balkanizing Ukraine into Russian and American sectors.

How about the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone?

Regarding seizing Gaza and setting up his Riviera.

In a Round Table discussion on CNN, Scott Jennings called this talk just "musing."

Abby Phillip: “Donald Trump, with his own words, said this is what he wants to do,” she pointed out. “He wasn’t musing. He was looking down at a piece of paper. I’ve been in a room with him, just like that, with foreign leaders, looking down at a piece of paper. He is reading a statement that was prepared for him. Those are not musings."

By not only tolerating, but encouraging Trump lapdogs and ass-kissers like the smirking Scott Jennings, in a juvenile and misguided effort for "balance", CNN, especially, is complicit in the election of the treasonous felon now pretending to be President. Great job, CNN.

I guess their massive, and quickly expanding, audience didn't get the message.

Quickly expanding audience of billionaires, yes. Others, not so much. Do you even try to find the truth about an issue before you write something?

USA burns through around 20 million barrels a day china 15 million barrels a day. https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=709
What is even made in america anymore it would cost around 100 bucks to make a spoon now a days due to the cost of living and labor costs. https://www.marinetraffic.com/ https://www.statista.com/statistics/283473/global-oil-product-growth-rate-outlook

According to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), the Gulf of Mexico is estimated to hold around 4.65 billion barrels of recoverable oil reserves, with an additional potential for 29.59 billion barrels of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil.
Key points about oil in the Gulf of Mexico:
Recoverable reserves: 4.65 billion barrels
Undiscovered potential: 29.59 billion barrels
Primary source of US offshore oil: The Gulf of Mexico is the primary source of offshore oil for the United States.

https://www.worldometers.info/oil/canada-oil/

https://www.context.news/net-zero/greenland-trump-and-the-race-for-critical-resources

the biggest known reserve is Venezuela https://www.cfr.org/backgrounder/venezuela-crisis with around 300 barrels of proven reserves https://oilprice.com/Energy/Crude-Oil/Trump-Understands-That-the-US-Needs-Venezuelan-Oil.html
Hence biden's attempt to get at it https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/03/07/biden-venezuela-oil-russia/
but, Putin won't have that https://www.reuters.com/world/venezuelas-maduro-expected-visit-russia-putins-oil-point-man-says-2023-10-16/ as the smoke clears. (interesting discussion prof from Chicago U https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrMiSQAGOS4 )

as oil is getting more costly to get at - need to push it out with polymers now, push it out or boil it with water, dig deeper go way out to sea etc..
As the politicians say - pump harder, ships go faster we need that GDP to rock and roll (and housing too, good documentary inside job https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_2BPs1zYMo and wall street https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-Q9AOp2FW8 )

Oil up inflation up interest rates up housing dies a primary driver for GDP can't print/borrow money nor sell bonds... (good documentary on where money comes from https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE88E9ICdiphYjJkeeLL2O09eJoC8r7Dc https://thegreattaking.com/ debt velocity of money https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8etB_ft35gU and this book good read on oil, inflation and tariff wars https://www.ctvnews.ca/calgary/article/economist-jeff-rubin-offers-a-map-of-the-new-normal/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0NwC8vSSeE )
Oil is everywhere from production of goods to the movement of goods.

USA needs cheap oil so too does china though. The new pipes to china? https://psabdp.com/news/russia-now-biggest-crude-supplier-to-china https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-10-26/xi-s-vow-of-world-dominance-by-2049-sends-chill-through-markets https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FjOIqSuhO8
https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/5-Oil-Producing-Nations-Ask-To-Join-BRICS-Alliance.html the new kids on the block with massive populations over 3 billion and counting.

Hence, Gulf of mexico looks mighty tasty right now. Curious to see what happens to fishing though etc... anyone remember 2010 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deepwater_Horizon_oil_spill

As bush said - might as well face it you're addicted to oil https://www.c-span.org/clip/call-in/user-clip-addicted-to-oil/4484705 and shopping too https://www.c-span.org/clip/white-house-event/user-clip-bush-shopping-quote/4552776 https://www.zdnet.com/article/might-as-well-face-it-youre-addicted-to-oil/

drill baby drill.. USA needs cheap oil so does china though

Yeah. The problem with that argument is that there's no shortage of oil on the market. And you can easily see that - no gas lines, no spike in prices that would indicate a shortage, demand easily met with an adequate supply. Trump can blather all he wants about drill, baby, drill if it gives him and his dimwitted base a tingle upside the leg but oil companies are not required to obey, at least not yet. Drilling for more would only depress prices and oil bidness execs would rather chew out their kidneys than see that happen. Further the war in Ukraine will end eventually and, with sanctions lifted, a flood of Russian oil will hit the market, depressing prices even more. So no. No oil company is going to want to drill for significantly more in the near future, regardless of the lies that Trump spews out daily. And that doesn't even begin to talk about the very real existential problem of global warming and the necessity of moving away from fossil fuels.

And BTW, brevity in your writing should be your gold standard.

Hemingway had a good assessment of his own style:
"What another writer would be content to leave in massive proportions, I polish into a tiny gem." The 2016 movie about Thomas Wolfe, called Genius, was not afraid to show that his greatest flaw was verbosity. Ernest recognized Wolfe's talent and volunteered to send him out to the Dry Tortugas to exorcise all those extra words from his prose.
Holds for science too. Starting a postdoc at Univ Arizona I couldn't help but be impressed by the massive PhD dissertation about Manduca sexta genetics of a previous graduate student lying on the shelf above my desk. My boss straightened it out for me: "Come on, give me a break,if he had any consistent results he would not have had to bullshit for 600 pages."

Two principles I remember from writing a lot.

1. Edit, edit, edit.

2. Doing that can avoid being the victim of someone else’s editing, because,

No passion on earth is greater than the passion to edit someone else’s writing.
