Just read this on line. All major Mexican beaches appear to be on the list. Any would be tourist is going to read that and go somewhere else. Really annoying for those who love MX. Tell me it's not true!

I participate in a FB group called "westjet Customer Service and Complaints."
You can probably tell by the title that this is very definitely NOT a FB group supported by the Canadian airline WestJet. It's a site where air traveller's can "air" their grievances of lousy service from one of Canada's two major airlines.
Two odd things occur regularly on this site:

1.Someone purporting to be a WestJet Customer Service rep. responds to specific complaints, asking that the complainer contact them for assistance in resolving their complaint. These are scammers. They are NOT WestJet employees and are in no position to resolve anything.
(WestJet may well monitor this "bitch site"......I'd be shocked if they did not...but they very definitely do not respond, in any way, shape or form.)

2. What is really odd, and most frustrating, is that a bunch of clowns from Nigeria constantly post totally false, totally negative stories about WestJet, complete with photos......stories of air crashes, labour troubles, flight cancelations, pilot and mechanics strikes, senior executives quitting or being fired, etc., etc.....all lies...or else dredging up year-old stories of labour
strife, etc. The originator of this crap is https://naijasitemarket.com....a Nigerian-based group.....and usually sent by someone named "Seyi Osunlana".

Needless to say, WestJet does not fly into or out of Nigeria.

So the question is: why are a bunch of Nigerians corrupting this FB group of complaining passengers of a Canadian airline? The only guess I have is they have been hired to spread as many lies and untruths as possible, with the intention of destroying any and all credibility the FB group may have. And who might benefit from destroying a FB group embarrassing to WestJet?

We don't know the exact answer. However, it is typical for websites such as these to petition larger, more popular websites such as MSN or AOL or Yahoo to publish their content, whether paid for or complimentary. Why would they do that? They are trying to send Internet traffic to their own site where they offer manifold advertisements. The ads are often called "clickbait" as they are usally sensational or salicious in same manner and these ads are also, in turn, trying to generate traffic to their own websites or sell some dubious product or service to low-IQ individuals.

You don't see them as much anymore but the best ones, in my humble opinion, are the ads that show celebrities from a few decades ago at their current age after many rounds of facial chemical treatments and plastic surgery. United States nether culture just doesn't get much better than that! However, it is my understanding that the U.S. doesn't hold a candle to the U.K. when it comes to profiting from human frailty. Can anyone relate how this dynamic plays out in Mexican culture?

Honestly the only time I was ever nervous in Zihua was when I stayed at Tree Tops on Blanca and went to get my then 7 yo son some food the day we arrived at one of the cool jungle restaurants back there by the big lagoon. There were about 30 federales with their M16s sitting at the huge table there. I ordered my food and one of them came over and said something like "You're in trouble gringo!" and the started laughing with the toothiest smile and invited me over to have shots with them while I waited. The joke made me nervous and also the fact that after our 3rd shot together (after they had been there a WHILE) they all piled into their Suburbans and took off.

I've travelled all (biked, scooter, bus etc..) through out the carribean islands, Belize, Honduras, Panama, costa rica (bike raced la ruta x 3 https://racelaruta.com/), many places in mexico, Guatemala (construcasa.org), Spain, Portugal, Columbia, etc... I've never had any real encounters beside a knife fight between two homeless people in Belize and someone chasing down someone in jamiaca with a machete then his car - that's a wild and crazy place.

If I open the paper there are at least 3-4 shootings a week now. At least 2-3 deaths a week on the highways etc...

I think crime is everywhere esp if one goes looking for it. I use the 80/20 rule, 80% of people are good people, 10% lose their mind from time to time, 10% are made up of 5% brain dead people, 5% that just don't give a damn (low empathy low compassion) those I fear the most
