While last nights temps weren't as cool as they'd been recently, our overall daytime temps were quite mild and pleasant this Sunday. Another perfect beach day enjoyed by our visitors. Once again, there were people swimming at Playa Principal before sunrise, and I could see people on SUPs across the bay apparently paddling between Playas Contramar and La Ropa.

The bay was extremely calm this morning, and bait fish were schooling. Later in the day the breeze picked up and dozens of frigate birds and pelicans were riding thermals over the pier area, making spectacular dives now and then, first a pelican diving for fish, then several frigates swooping at it trying to steal its catch with their amazing flying abilities.

[image]I'm quite saddened to report the passing of an old friend I knew as don Rubén "El Hígado" Martínez Elisea who was 90-something-years-old with all his memories intact. An amazing historian and repository of Zihuatanejo anecdotes who lived a life full of the friendships of generations of Zihuatanejenses, though I believe his family was originally from La Unión. He could be heard countless mornings on the radio talk show "Zona Libre" hosted by our mutual friend Sergio Vázquez Rosas. He was a treasure trove of amazing recollections going almost back to the Revolución, remembering dates, events, people and places with astonishing detail and clarity. Zihuatanejo lost a favorite son this Sunday. QEPD

The Paseo del Pescador was packed with locals and visitors this Sunday evening. Thankfully the pier entrance wasn't blocked, and we enjoyed running into some of our beloved friends during our stroll along the pier as well as all along the Paseo. I want to apologize if I didn't stop to chat with people who greeted us, but when I'm walking with Lupita I try to keep us moving along because I still have work to do when we get home. Otherwise, it would easily take us over an hour just to go up and down the waterfront and I'd still be working until 11 at night.

[image]Truly one of the loveliest vacation lodgings at La Ropa and one of my favorite properties to promote is Villa Zanzibar, a charming 3-bedroom private villa tucked away in the old original La Ropa community at the southern end of the beach a short easy walk up from the waterfront. Located in one of the most peaceful areas of our community, this is a place to feel relaxed and at home.
