Awakened at 6:30 this morning by the damn leaf-blower guy who only blows huge clouds of dust around including in our windows, so I had to jump up and shut the windows in our bedroom. He only shows up when there's about to be a special event. At the same time in front of our home city workers were doing a sloppy and rushed job painting the curbs yellow. A sure sign a politician will soon be in the area. And sure enough the Gobernadora and the Alcadesa showed up at the museum next door, but they never actually set foot in Plaza del Artista.
So after around 2 years being closed "for remodelling", Zihuatanejo's archaeological museum reopened today to much pomp and circumstance with the mayor and the governor posing and making speeches. TWO YEARS to do a simple remodel, but two monuments to corruption, the Partenón and the Capricho del Rey road to nowhere, were rushed and done in a matter of a few months each. Follow the money, honey.
So come and visit the museum again. It's open and all prettied up. Learn some of the history of Zihuatanejo and the region. What's known is a fascinating story going back thousands of years.
Still hardly any visitors around. Few sales downtown that are going to be even less now that buses won't be parking near Plaza Kioto. Terrible news for many businesses, restaurants, lodgings and vendors in the Boquita Canal area of town, many that have almost wholly dependent on those tourists for a couple of decades now. Lots of folks are clamoring for a solution from the mayor, but I wouldn't be optimistic about that. She's more about appearances than real solutions.
The expected rise in waves never materialized that I could tell. The waves seem the same here in the bay, and only about a meter and a half in Ixtapa. The water in Zihuatanejo has cooled a wee tad to around 26.5°C. With Semana Santa about to begin, things are looking good. Too often we have cold water and algae blooms at this time of year. But this year it looks like the ocean is cooperating nicely.

Un macaco aterrizó y posó frente a nosotros mientras caminábamos en el muelle durante el anochecer en Zihuatanejo.
