Aeromexico Fares

I have become accustomed to paying a higher price to fly on AeroMexico between Zihuatanejo and Vancouver, BC, but it almost looks like AM is trying to shut down travel.

I’m looking to fly ZI-YVR on December 12.

AeroMexico wants C$2774.57 to take 12 hours to travel in coach with one carry on bag and a connection in Mexico City.

WestJet wants C$447.10 for a six hour non-stop flight the same day.

The obvious question is “Why don’t you fly WestJet?”.

I will have my dog with me (paying several hundred dollars for his fare) and WestJet won’t fly a dog in hold in December.

My wife and I flew Aeromexico in mid-February, return ZIH/MEX/YVR/MEX/ZIH for $1510 Canadian total.

Have you ever tried using a VPN to fool the airline into thinking you live somewhere else? You can often see substantial differences in prices when you do. For example, if you book flights and the airline thinks you are in cities with very strong economies, the prices will be higher. If you tell the VPN to display to the Internet that you live in a lower socio-economic region, they will drop the price. It is called dynamic pricing.

I am guessing that if Aeromexico thought you lived in Mexico and you asked for prices in pesos, the ticket price would be much lower. Just an untested hypothesis.

Also, remember that you can fly down to San Diego, make your way to the Tijuana airport, and then fly directly to Zihuatanejo via Volaris. It's a domestic flight so no customs in Zihua. I have no idea what types of pooch provisions Volaris has.

Thanks for the ideas. I had tried VPN to Mexico and to the US. The US number was a lot smaller, but of course that smaller number was in US dollars. ????

The Mexican number was much larger but in in Mexican pesos. ;-)

I cleared my cache as well, before AM tries to clear out my cash.
