Can someone provide me with the current taxi rates from Playa Ropa to El Centro?

Also, can anyone recommend moderately priced lodgings in Zihua that don't require lots of stair climbing to get to rooms or the beach? My partner has some mobility issues due to a broken back and loads of stairs, like most places around Playa Madera have, would be difficult for him.

What is your price range? Recommend avoiding very close to the beach and the Cancha as it can get very loud at night.

I wouldn't want to pay more than $175 US per night. I am considering Catalina Beach Resort. In the past, I have stayed at hotels by La Madera, but my partner couldn't handle all the stairs involved there.

Listen to Rob. Catalina is all stairs.

And their rates have increased. The room we stayed in in the past is now just short of $300 a night with our “discount.” The “rack rate” is about $350. I think they are going to price themselves out of existence.

Try Casa Iguana at Playa La Ropa. No stairs. Just a few steps from the beach.

These options are on La Ropa Beach. Both have pools and direct beach access with chairs and Pulapas on the beach.

Both are great places to stay at reasonable prices. That said during high season it is difficult to make a reservation. I would make a reservation now.

I have stayed twice at Bungalows Vepao and put my family up there three times. It is right on the beach and has only two levels. I highly recommend it!

I don't see queen or king size beds. Are those bed sizes available without Catalina steps? I had heard a rumor in the past about a chairlift installation at the Catalina, is it true? We love that place. Thank you

There is no chairlift at Catalina. I can’t imagine how they could possibly install one. From top to bottom there are around 250 steps. The stairs are of variable width and rise, at times without hand rails. When we were younger it didn’t seem like that big a deal. We stayed in the middle, so which ever way we went it was around 125 steps. While it is a fine hotel, some of the rooms are showing their age. Their pricing has become more aggressive.

We have stayed there twice in the honeymoon room and it's half way also. We are nearing 70 years old so we no longer want the steps. We were going in March of 2020 and the pandemic happened and we haven't made it back yet. Is there a LaRopa beach level place to stay with a king or queen bed?

Or the slightly more affordable Villa Mexicana next door.

Last time I stayed there, which admittedly was about ten years ago, the beds were very large.

Villa Mexicana does have king size beds. It is a very nice location. The beach area is quite crowded and the amenities are quite basic.

Hello
Hotel Villas Las Azucenas and The Thompson are out of my league. I've haven't seen anything about Villa Mexicana is there something to be avoided there?

A lot of folks love Villa Mexicana. We stayed there a couple of times 20+ years ago as they were beginning their renovations. The rooms were quite basic. While the location is great, the beach area is quite crowded.

The only downside I experienced was that there were no kitchen type amenities - coffee pot, fridge, microwave - presumably to steer their guests into their mediocre attached restaurant. Otherwise I liked it a lot.

Thank you, we don’t spend much time in the room. The Thompson would be the top end of our budget. I like the Catalina except for the stairs. They have chillaquillas for breakfast, palapas for many guests. Massage a few yards away, Illeberto making us cocoa locos mas fuerta, unless he doesn't work there anymore, a pool, restaurant and 3 bars. You can see what I like and I'm unable to decide without more help.
Thank you
