Un Tópico SenZIHble
We awoke to cloudy skies again this Saturday morning, but they quickly dissipated, and it turned into another picture-postcard-perfect sunshiny day. The temperatures remained mild, and the ocean was calm with some small waves in the bay. People were swimming in the bay even though it's still quite dirty from the runoff from the rain the day before yesterday. It should be better this Sunday. The downtown beach was full of visitors by the end of the day. However, in spite of the increased presence of visitors, sales were extremely slow for local merchants and wandering vendors.
I worry that the USA's involvement in the Israeli-Iranian conflict will ruin U.S. tourism to Zihuatanejo this winter season. Each time the USA gets involved in a conflict or there's an incident, tourism drops drastically. Even within the USA. And if Iran strikes U.S. interests or people, that will certainly keep U.S. people at home. That's been my experience not just here but also in Florida. And since unlike Florida we have no alternative industries to work in, the hardship would be even greater for us. When Saddam invaded Kuwait, Zihuatanejo became a ghost town within a week, and it took years to return to normal. I hope I'm wrong.
I also hope I'm wrong about the hurricane currently forming up in the Bahía de Tehuantepec, but it sure looks like its projected trajectory brings it right towards us. Just what we don't need.
