We celebrated the 72nd anniversary of the creation of the Municipio de Zihuatanejo de Azueta this Tuesday. There was a big whoop-tee-dew with politicians and the Sector Naval in the plaza by the pier where the statue is located of Tte. José Azueta firing his machine gun at invading Gringos in Veracruz where he was mortally wounded by them, for whom our municipio was named.

The road leading to Zihuatanejo from Morelia was heavily congested with vacationers. There were several accidents, but mostly just a lot of traffic. Lines were long at the toll booths, and it was bumper-to-bumper by the time they reached Zihuatanejo. Amazingly, while there was nowhere to park, the streets were empty of shoppers most of the day because everyone was at the beach. And the beaches didn't disappoint. The ocean remains extremely calm, and the water temperature an absolutely perfect 28.6°C. Visitors were able to swim safely at all our beaches since the waves were so small and there were no dangerous currents.

Still no snow in the forecast. B-)

And I'm still convinced I'm the luckiest Gringo in Mexico. :vacation:

This Wednesday expect crowds at local restaurants for the traditional Cena de Nochebuena. Most restaurants will be closed for Navidad.

[image]Speaking of restaurants, if you're a fan of mouth-watering recipes, one of the best reasons for visiting Ixtapa is to go to Deborah's Restaurant. Whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner, everything we've ever eaten there has been prepared to perfection and the service has always been excellent. Deborah also makes some of the best desserts around, so save room when you go.
