Most of the free world is disgusted with what the USA did this morning in Venezuela. As bad as Maduro was, removing him by violent foreign intervention from the USA only assures that things will get worse. We all know this is about oil and enriching a few billionaires.
But Putin and Xi couldn't be more pleased with the example and the excuse the Criminal-in-Chief has given them to do the same thing in Ukraine and Taiwan. And any other country seeking to take over a smaller country just got the green light.
But never mind the illegality and unlawful orders. Why this concerns you here in Mexico or anywhere else outside the USA is that now you have a target on your back like we haven't seen in decades. Anyone who looks like a Gringo is now fair game for retribution by a host of players this violent illegal action has just put into play. It's bad enough when they start painting graffiti that says "Yankees go home", as we saw here during the Panama invasion. But this goes way beyond that. This is a blatantly illegal action not based on any altruistic motives. There is no good outcome in the future for Venezuelans from this action. The same political and military apparatus are in place, and history and experience already shows us that when you cut off the head of a demon, a worse demon takes its place. This is not how you bring about a transfer of power that leads to prosperity for the people of Venezuela. This is a completely illegal colonialist grab for Venezuela's oil and other natural resources.
Calls to cancel and boycott the World Cup and the Olympics in the USA just as Russia was boycotted after invading Ukraine gain greater legitimacy and urgency.
But my concern is for U.S. citizens and people who might be mistaken for them. Are you in danger? You're certainly in greater danger now than you were last week. Wherever there are gatherings of Gringos, both in the USA and outside its borders, the threat level has been increased because of the USA's stupid actions. I'm used to living as a U.S. citizen outside the continental USA and dealing with such threats, but I suspect most of you aren't. While Zihuatanejo and the Costa Grande appears far removed from the world's madness, stupid actions like what the USA has done today cause fanatics to look for weaknesses and vulnerable targets. And that's precisely what U.S. citizens in any tourist resort destination are.
I hope you'll be communicating with your elected representatives to express your outrage at what has been done by a vile criminal in the name of We The People.

I recall how back in the late 60s and 70s we Canadians had flags on our backpacks hats and jackets. Didnt want to be mistaken for one of those Mericans while hitchhiking around Europe. I'll be wearing my Canada toque that I was given at Canadian Tire when travelling this year especially while driving a Miata across Spain in May, top down letting my free flag fly.
I hope some day soon that the US can back away from the brink it is on.

At the tee-shirt shop in Rosarito, they made me four tee-shirts with the El Pendejo icon and two tee-shirts with the El Maligno icon.

These tee-shirts are immensely popular and I get numerous request for fotos with Mexicans.
I may invest in some Canadian Maple Leaf flag tee-shirts but that would be false advertising. Soy Gringo. I would really like to have one of those tee-shirts that says "Hecho en México" but again, that would be false advertising.
I also have a FCK TMP tee-shirt from Puerto Vallarta but I don't ever wear it. Cowards run in my family and I am sure that some rabid MAGAt would love to punch an old guy in the face for not believing the Orange Mussolini is the Second Coming of the Messiah.

Funny, I'm only seeing "celebrations" by Venezuelans on U.S. media. That must be where Canada is getting their stories from. No one is celebrating south of the Río Bravo. They're protesting in front of U.S. embassies here and around the world. Latin Americans have had enough of U.S. billionaires sending the U.S. military in to take over countries whose natural resources they want. Venezuelans will blow up ports, ships, refineries, pipelines, whatever they have to in order to prevent the USA from stealing their natural resources this time.
No one will miss Maduro, but they will miss food on the table, electricity, safety in the streets, running water, jobs, peacefulness. The USA has no plan to run Venezuela. They can't even run the USA! The old government and its military are still there, and if they can't govern then chaos will soon take over. And no one is anxious to give away their natural resources. Violence and suffering are suddenly in the immediate future for millions of innocent Venezuelans. And they will not be happy with any Gringos they find in their country.
Gringos don't get to tell anyone whom Venezuelans or anyone can or cannot do business with. Their government has made itself unwelcome in too many Latin American countries with their history of meddling, destabilization and exploitation. China has never tried invading any of their countries or to overthrow their leaders.

Rob's post was a bit ambiguous. China has indeed invaded other countries, most notably Tibet. It appears Rob was referring to Latin American countries. China indeed does seem to have plans for economic imperialism in the Western Hemisphere. They have to do something with all the dollars we gave sent them, right?

I was referring to the countries in Latin America. Here the Chinese are playing the long game and either remaining neutral or winning hearts and minds through their investments. While they’ve overreached a few times, they’ve never threatened anyone here or invaded their country like the USA has done too many times. In contrast, the USA is fomenting more and more resistance to their impositions.

Yes in Edmonton but it was far from unanimous as there were several anti-US protests in Canada yesterday and Venezuelans protesting the action of the US were shown in Ottawa and other cities. Most Venezuelans living outside Venezuela likely wants Maduro out but not done this way.
