Hello.
I have a car here with Guerrero license plates, and my US drivers license. What is your experience with that? Do I need a local license or is mine enough?
Thanks!

I have a Guerrero-plated vehicle and a Canadian drivers license.
I keep planning to get a Guerrero drivers license. My thought is that if my drivers license is ever seized, I would want to still have my Canadian drivers licence.
I don’t know whether the seizure of my license is a legitimate concern.

If you drive similarly to the average Tijuanense or Chilango, I would suggest that it would be a distinct possibility in your future. Compared to other parts of Mexico and certainly compared to road-rage filled Southern California, I find the drivers in Zihuatanejo to be quite careful. Every once in a while, a combi driver is auditioning to be the next Mexican Speed Racer, but that is the rare exception, thankfully.

We have been driving cars here with Guerrero license plates and Canadian drivers licenses for 17 years. We both have had copies made and laminated of these licenses which we show if ever we are stopped. We also carry the originals. We have been stopped several times over the years but we have never had these duplicated licenses questioned. When we were in Morelia 18 or more years ago we were stopped by "moto traffic police", who tied to scam us for a lot of money. They took my husband's original license and would not give it back to him before he paid up. After this incident we were advised to not give the original over.
